I just heard some mention on one of the Sunday AM political shows about the F-22 Raptor program being behind schedule, over budget, and contractors are rewarded with bonuses. I think if we're gonna spend we deserve more of a return than empty promises.
definetly you should to have audits and oversight on everything!

Not just that, I think when you reach a point where you can incinerate the planet 20 or 30 times over it becomes folly to shoot for 100 when that money could be better spent on education, medical reserach, etc.

Ike's warning of the military/industrial complex has withstood the test of time and is as valid now as when first spoken. With a little luck we may actually listen someday,

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the militaryindustrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.

I stand by my claim that Bush is not a true Republican, and I don't say this because I want people to vote Republican. I say this because I want people to take a good hard look at what our leaders are doing, not just what they are saying.

So who out there right now on the political scene do you consider a real republican?

I honestly don't know. As I said earlier, all I see is corruption. They don't listen to us. They make promises, so they can get our votes, then cater to the needs of friends and lobbyists.

The Republican party has been hijacked by fringe groups just as much as the democratic party. Everyone is so extreme.

Here's another quote from that speech that I don't think a single living politician has ever heard...

Quote:
Another factor in maintaining balance involves the element of time. As we peer into society's future, we -- you and I, and our government -- must avoid the impulse to live only for today, plundering, for our own ease and convenience, the precious resources of tomorrow. We cannot mortgage the material assets of our grandchildren without risking the loss also of their political and spiritual heritage. We want democracy to survive for all generations to come, not to become the insolvent phantom of tomorrow.
To think of the world we're leaving for grandchildren (I'm 30)...it makes me sad and ashamed.

im thinking back to the 1970's, when i was a teenager,,,and the most serious threat to america or our stability, was the cold war with ussr.
that threat is no longer (thank god), but it has been replaced by islamic extremists, willing to blow themselves up to kill americans. i personally cant comprehend this, but i do believe its real, its happening everyday in iraq.
after 9-11, or seeing the destruction of 9-11. we were under attack, from those extremists with the sole purpose of killing innocent americans, i believe that threat is still there, or here, i consider this country blessed, lucky, fortunate, we havent had another blow-up since 9-11.
i also strongly believe, if we werent fighting on a front in iraq, we would have been "hit" many times, by suicide bombers, (how do you reason with peoples willing to blow themselves up, and arent identifiable.)

there is no one,,no matter the party, that still wants us in this war/conflict. but the consequences are severe if we pull out now, the iraqi population will probly be decimated, and like john mcain said today, THEY WILL FOLLOW US OVER HERE (if we pull out)
