Poll Finds New Optimism on Economy Since Inauguration

By ADAM NAGOURNEY and MEGAN THEE-BRENAN
Published: April 6, 2009

Americans have grown more optimistic about the economy and the direction of the country in the 11 weeks since President Obama was inaugurated, suggesting that he is enjoying some success in his critical task of rebuilding the nation’s confidence, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.

These sometimes turbulent weeks — marked by new initiatives by Mr. Obama, attacks by Republicans and more than a few missteps by the White House — do not appear to have hurt the president. Americans said they approved of Mr. Obama’s handling of the economy, foreign policy, Iraq and Afghanistan; fully two-thirds said they approved of his overall job performance.

By contrast, just 31 percent of respondents said they had a favorable view of the Republican Party, the lowest in the 25 years the question has been asked in New York Times/CBS News polls.

Happy days are here again....

Well except for the over 16% who are unemployed(if you use U-6 figures)

I believe the official figures are over 2,000,000 people have become unemployed since the Inauguration....

Don't leave out that the IMF said today that they have underestimated the amount of bad debt the banks have by about 40% and it could be as high as 3 Trillion.
So it seems the latest push in the MSM to blow sunshine and happiness up our collective skirts is working, except when you look at employment numbers, forclosures, bankruptcy filings and the couple of billionares who are saying the market is in for a sharp downturn (market report on the Today show this morning).
Yep, those polls are always right....

I just love it. These bitter losers are just digging themselves a hole with their tea parties, and petty criticisms of teleprompters and IPOD gifts..LOL

Keep it up hardcore Republicans...we will have a filibuster proof Senate in no time.

27% of those polled by Gallup disapprove of Obama....a steady increase from 12% on January 20th.

What do you make of that?

Is this the best you can do? I'd bet if you attended any of the tea parties you'd soon see that your description of the participants is way off base. Unfortunately I think you're just interested in spewing Dailykos/Moveon points that support your agenda instead of looking at the truth of the matter.
I went to our local tea party and what I saw was a bunch of ticked off people who are not happy with either party.

That would mean 8% of these 'hardcore dead-enders' approved of Obama on January 20th....

LOL....try again.
