WHATTA Side splitter!! Really? America really doesn't have any better choices for an "Arts Liason"?? Should I leave now, or stick around to see what other laughable events we can come up with to diminish quality standards?

I thought I had heard it all..but evidently they just keep-a-comin'!

White House Taps Actor Kal Penn As Arts Liaison
http://media.npr.org/news/images/200...7/penn_200.jpg

NPR.org, April 7, 2009 · The Obama administration has hired actor Kal Penn as a liaison between President Obama's administration and arts groups.

White House spokesman Shin Inouye said Tuesday that the actor who had a recurring role on Fox's TV show House would join the staff as an associate director in the Office of Public Liaison.

What do you feel would make someone qualified for this position?

Can he re-create the farce that's taking place in the White House right now in form of a good play? Can he paint in broad strokes a bar graph chart showing our nation's projected deficit? Can he eloquently sing Government Cheese to illustrate the depression-era food lines we might find ourselves in soon? If so, he may be a darn good "liason" and worth every one of your tax pennys!

What's the big deal? The arts & entertainment are a huge part of the economy and one of our biggest exports around the world. Why shouldn't it have some representation in economic policy?

Other countries are even considering following suit: UK Guardian: Should we follow America's lead on arts funding?

Its a good thing this country isn't going through some of the toughest economic times in its history, otherwise such things might be considered....stupid.

I'm not saying it shouldn't have representation. I'm an artist so I most definitely support the issue. I just think the dude he chose is a very sad, sad choice.

Anyone who's a little more renowned than the douche bag who's greatest and most popular feat is his main role in some "generation-MTV" movie.
Damn, sometimes my old soul gets to me, I guess!

This is sort of a bizarre choice, but I will say that though we know him for roles in stupid comedies, Kal Penn is a solid actor who was in one of the better films of 2007. It was called The Namesake, and I really enjoyed it.

Kal Penn was very instrumental in promoting Obama's campaign, and served as a pretty good liaison to the youth vote. The appointment seems only reasonable.
