Quite interesting....also interesting that people's knee jerk reaction is 'something should have been done to prevent him from having these guns'...

Problem being he has no record of having mental problems.
It is illegal for those with a court record of mental illness or outpatient mental health treatment to own a gun.

Possibly.

Here in a America we seem to have lots of people that are borderline going ape-sh*t when times are good. Factor in hard times and some people simply go off the deep end.

History tells us that crime increases as the economy declines. I think there is a good chance that the killings are linked to the current mess.

Is this a case of more murder suicides or that the media is doing more stories on murder suicides? As far as I can determine, the murder/suicides that involved a man killing his family the one thing they seem to have in common is that the wife was going to leave him. In these cases, were there histories of domestic violence?
These things are tragic, and I sincerely hope that there are psychiatrists doing studies on these --- but to blame the economy is simplistic.
Unless you want to politize tragedy, that is.

Crime goes up when the economy goes down. Though that doesn't mean every instance is because of the economy.

People who have bought into the consumerist lifestyle seem less able to cope with economic issues, compared to those who haven't. The bad economy hasn't gotten me upset at all, but then I'm not into the consumerism and money-centered lifestyle.
