WASHINGTON | Many speak more to base than whole country

WASHINGTON -- Three months into the new Congress, Republicans are struggling to reinvent themselves on the fly as they adjust to life without a president of their own party or a majority in the House and Senate.
Opposition to President Barack Obama's policies is relatively easy to achieve. But developing alternatives that can appeal outside the party's conservative core seems more difficult.

On taxes and other issues, polling suggests Republicans are facing a far different electorate from the one that trusted them with control of Congress for more than a decade and twice elected George W. Bush president.

"It seems like a lot of Republicans are speaking only to their [political] base," says John Feehery, who was a top aide to the last GOP speaker of the House, former Rep. J. Dennis Hastert of Illinois. "And their base is very interesting and very energized, but also only makes up 25 percent of the country."

What do you care about the status of the GOP or where they go? If you're not invested in the party, then what could be your motivation other than to discredit the GOP and find joy in that, or to state the obvious? Either way, this is a junk thread. Get a life already.

Dose of Reality...
Yup.

The GOP realization that a wishy-washy, moderately conservative, democrat-light, like John McCain was not a winner, really has these folks perplexed.

And how is this a junk thread? Please, compared to what? All the stuipid mindless threads that are some view as relevant to today's politics are mind boggling... Sure my thread was posted with the intent of discrediting the GOP but it is no way junk. No more junk than you posting about what Michelle wore when she met the Queen... Whether President Obama bowed or not... Get real, for once take a look at yourself in the mirror, get a dose, take two and check back...

This is the crux of the matter right here. Their political base is still the old Confederacy, as George Will has said many times. To win the Presidency they must win another 12 of the key States. That requires a broader agenda. So far they don't even show signs of an interest in a broader agenda, they just continue to chase their own tails.
