We spent billions to "liberate" thise barbarians?

Not to be out done, Iraqi militia men have developed a technique in which they glue—that's right, GLUE!—the anuses of gay men. According to ThinkProgress:
"A prominent Iraqi human rights activist says that Iraqi militia have deployed a painful form of torture against homosexuals by closing their anuses using 'Iranian gum.' ...Yina Mohammad told Alarabiya.net that, 'Iraqi militias have deployed an unprecedented form of torture against homosexuals by using a very strong glue that will close their anus.' According to her, the new substance 'is known as the American hum, which is an Iranian-manufactured glue that if applied to the skin, sticks to it and can only be removed by surgery. After they glue the anuses of homosexuals, they give them a drink that causes diarrhea. Since the anus is closed, the diarrhea causes death. Videos of this form of torture are being distributed on mobile cellphones in Iraq.'"

That's despicable.

I doubt the Iraqi government condones it though.

Your "we spent billions to liberate these barbarians?" line is just a cheap shot at Bush and the Iraq war.

Our own police forces have been equally as brutal. Just ask Amadou Diallo and the NYPD.

You wouldn't classify all of New York as barbarians would you?

Definitely a shot at Bush and his war. Thinking you can turn this sort of culture into some Western democracy is just delusional.

This isn't the Iraqi people as a whole. This is Muslim extremists. The people we're fighting.

Definitely extremists who are doing this, but Middle Eastern culture in general is pretty hostile toward gay people. Iran kills gay people.

So people who LOVE torture and see nothing wrong with it like the repubs in here are barbarians?

YUP!

Saddam was a despicable person, but at the same time, when it came to keeping religious extremists, he was effective and more in line with our guiding principles when it came to secularism and openness to putting women in his administration, and as a result he even had a female minister in his cabinet who was also a Christian. This may have to do with him representing the minority group (Sunni), and against revolution from Kurds and Shias (both supported by Iran). There was a bit of "balance", albeit eerily.

Now, Iraq has fallen in the trap, to be run by the majority (Shia) who are heavily supported by Iran, hence religious fundamentalism. It will eventially evolve into a democracy similar to Iran, technically, giving rise to a combined Iran-Iraq coalition whereas in the past they used to neutralize each other. The religious fanatics will continue to gain control, and this mindless act against people is just one of many to follow, unfortunately.
