What a shocker....

Quote:
Worse-than-expected news on unemployment and home sales Thursday dampened optimism that a broad economic recovery might be near.
Quote:
But in another sign of labor market weakness, the number of people continuing to claim benefits rose to 6.13 million, setting a record for the 12th straight week.
Quote:
Meanwhile, the National Association of Realtors said home sales fell 3 percent to an annual rate of 4.57 million last month, from a downwardly revised pace of 4.71 million units in February.
Quote:
The Realtors group estimates about half of sales nationwide are from foreclosures or other distressed properties.

Seriously thought this stimulus package was going to help? The money is getting to states. We were told there was shovel ready projects ready to go.

Obama needs to focus on the economy alone enough with the other distractions. There is 6.1 million Americans without a job and the bleeding isnt stopping.

Enough with the excuses from Obama supporters also. Put aside the politics and lets figure out whats best for the citizens of this country

I do not see a recovery anytime soon...although others do seem to think it is just around the corner....

Their basis for this belief seems to be things must get better because we are throwing so much money at the problem....

I've been asking this all along: For a nation that has over $14 TRILLION in annual output, what would make anyone think that a tiny $787 BILLION would do more than create a tiny blip on the economic radar?

Direct, indirect, and induced impacts will serve as a multiplier and will undoubtedly result in more than $787B of economic impact, but it's been my opinion all along that the expected results have been over-hyped.

I hope i'm wrong and I hope we climb up out of this hole sooner rather than later.

There are a TON of construction projects started in my area... they're redoing part of the airport, doing a lot of road construction etc etc. In fact, it's getting to be really irritating driving through the place.

Of course, for some odd reason there are still a bunch of new houses being built, new office buildings etc going up, but a lot of for lease signs are still up on the old buildings... I just think people in my county are a bunch of dolts.

In my opinion there will be no recovery or if there is it will be another bubble.

Obama isnt addressing the what I believe to be the root cause (loss of jobs to cheap labor). He is not making any attempt to correct this so we will continue to lose good paying jobs and they will be replaced with low wage/no benefit jobs).

As stated before I thought this is what Republicans want so I dont understand why they are so angry

What about the average Jane and John Doe? How are they spending?
Which came first - the chicken or the egg? Did Average Citizen cut down on their spending because we heard how bad things were, or did things get worse so we quit spending?
Has it been, at least to a degree, a case of self-fulfilling prophecy?

When the news hit a couple months ago about how bad the economy was, how it's going to get worse, all the govt spending, etc. - it made me (then and now) spend less even though I had/have not directly felt it in my pocket. Not saying I have stopped all spending but I do spend a lot less than I would have if I were not worried about the future of our economy.

People do not have the money, they did have the credit.

Most everything we buy is on credit....it is the system that is the problem and that is not being addressed....

As long as you have Keynesian witchdoctors practicing "government the consumer of last resort" as well as force feeding people cheap money, this cycle will continue on its gradual descent.
