Even Clinton did not go through something like this in 1993. From what little I recall, Reagan was treated with at least a little respect, as was Bush Sr., in their first 100 days by the left/democrats.
My point being is that maybe the left hated Bush as time went on, but not with this craziness on the right. I think the left hate for Bush didn't really even start to be obvious, until he went into (on lies and disception) Iraq in 3/03.
I just think that they saw the unpopularity that Bush got (and merited) and how he put the GOP in the toilet and now are trying everything they can to, in their minds "return the favor".
I have another theory was to why this is going on, all this sudden literal hate for Obama (not overall, he still has a solid approval rating), however that would open up a can of worms.
I will say however, a lot of "code" (like socialist) being thrown at Obama, is not a hell of a lot different than what was thrown at Dr. King 41-45 years ago.

What you do or dont recall is irrelevant. I recall Bush hate talk immediately following his election, Clinton his, Bush one his, ect, now its Obamas turn. Its the shallowness of the vast majority of Americans & theyr religious observance of our stupid 2 party system. If it makes you feel better Bush was a socialist too. The only real difference is Bush thought we should help big business & Obama thinks we should help the downtrodden. Neither realizes Americans should be free to help who they want with their own money.

I think it a great insult to Dr King to compare him with Obama. Barak aint worthy of shining his shoes.

It started with the right hating Clinton, then with the election issues the left immediately started hating Bush. Add in a healthy dose of non stop hatred towards the left spewed from talk radio and the cycle will continue until enough people stop listening to it.

While I detested everything about Bush and his policies, Obama is far from perfect as well (before anyone attacks me I actually voted for Obama despite his pro illegal alien stance). However, Ron Paul was my candidate of choice.

That being said, I firmly believe that both the right and left wing politicians continue to LTAO at the political divisions they create in order to count on people like those who visit this forum daily to spew politically based rhetoric, venom and hatred at one another to keep them in office, indefinitely.

Wake up folks and realize that politicians on both sides of the aisle created our current, repetitive good cop bad cop buddy system. There is NO difference between them. They are all political hacks in bed with big business and one another. All of them are playing the odd while gambling on how long it will take for us to self destruct.

If we ever plan on returning to a functional, cohesive nation, IT'S LONG PAST TIME FOR A 3RD PARTY AND TERM LIMITS in this country.

I sit in the middle. But I used to lean more to the left on many issues and historically have voted more Democrat than Republican.

This past election changed helped that. I have seen more hostility and hatred and downright loony-toones behavior from the LEFT than I could believe. All of the media activism and crazy celebrities acting like they know anything about politics or what it takes to make a fair and balanced judgement certainly didn't help that. In my opinion the left is way more partisan than the right which is completely contradictory of the messages they try to send.

So now I don't like either party. At all. (of course the left wing loonies always assume people like me could therefore ONLY be a staunch Rebublican supporter).

Another party? There are already over 20 political parties in the U.S., another one isn't going to do anything.

The real answer is NO parties. That would force people to have to know more about a candidate than the letter after their name.

Not even on the Minnesota forums, which I visit occasionally.

The repukes don't have the depth of thought to have reason behind their hate; simply put those stupid enough to have supported Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld and their actions, are just to the bone stupid.

I paid some attention to politics back then and once W was sworn into office, even though the way he got in was beyond despicable, the left/dems were not nearly was rabid with their hate during the first 3 to 4 months, like the right has been towards Obama.
A significant part of this hate for Obama (again significant, maybe not even most) is, sour grapes, revenge for the Bush hatred and at least a little bit is, folks that don't like the fact that the president happens to be black.

It did start in 2001 (The Smirking Chimp).

Never heard of it, never read it.

But at first glance, all I see is a recap of (political) news articles. Yes, they are critiquing & criticizing Bush and his administration, but I don't think they are attacking him and calling for physical harm if they don't get their way.

If I had to guess, I'd say Clinton is the first president you remember well. This stuff has been going on for forever. Bush, Sr, preceeded Clinton, he wasn't even re-elected. Reagan was elected twice, but considered a buffoon by many. Carter before him got a lot of crap. And so on back to Washington.

It will be the same. As long as people are free to criticize, right or left it is what it is. Just look at the way you described Bush. People talk about Obama in the same way. If you can't see that what you do is the same you must either be blind to too partisan. Again it is what it is and I hope it never changes or we will cease to be a democracy.
