You are the one trying to revise history. They had already started their own nation with a government, currency, and military.

Aah, ok.. so long as you agree that they were not fighting for the United States... then you can have your rhetorical victory... I'll get you next time...

I'm sorry too, I have to wholeheartedly disagree with that statement about the cause being slavery. There is a lot of people that have a hard time with this, I guess from the dis-information Public Schools?

Let's try this again "THE SOUTH FOUGHT FOR STATES RIGHTS", man I feel so much better.

If you don't know what that is, it's the opposite of what they are doing now. If the south had won (MD being included in the south god willing) we would be laughing our asses off at the north, and the socialist, overbearing huge central gov., and banks owning your butts. But hey we lost and look what we have, your brilliant forefathers helped to make us voluntary slaves anyways. See you in the bread lines to come as the banks finally take over all.

Half right. They were fighting for states' rights, but the most prominent right in question was the right to treat blacks as cattle. In fact throughout the South's history, until the 60s, the phrase "States' Rights" always referred to the states' right to oppress it's minorities. Fortunately, the 13th, 14th and 15th amendment took away those particular "state rights".

I don't even think the South would have lasted as a single nation anyway. Each state left the union because they wanted to run their own affairs, so when the war was over they would have quibbled over that. (with South Carolina leading the way ) Imagine if, after the Revolution, the anti-federalists won the Constitution Debate....that would be the modern CSA, IMO.

Thanks; I'm not sure why this is so hard to grasp...

In the south, this was a rich man's war and a poor man's battle.Fewer than 10% of the confederate army were slave owners. We fought for state's rights and to save our land from an invasion.

It's not debatable they either did or not. It's simple it's not.

However, that really has nothing to do with this topic...
Probably not then I'm not the one that claimed the south was a nation.

since when is recognition by other nations a requirement for a nation to exist?

I don't care for the confederate flag, I believe it represents the denial of basic human rights for my people and many others who were not WASPS.

I believe it perpetuates hate and ignorance, isolatonists beliefs and is contrary to all things truely American and Democratic.

That being said I think it is VERY wrong to remove and/or destroy the flags placed on these men's graves.

No matter how wrong I think their beliefs, they died fighting for what they believed to be right and they deserve not to have their graves desecrated.

They were what they were, soldiers of the confederacy, so let them have their confederate flag!!!
