Sanrene is right on one point: Churchill had no real scruples about doing anything in wartime. He, Stalin, Roosevelt, Truman and Hitler would be occupying the same concentric circle of hell, if there were such a place. The Left, if it is to maintain any credibility, needs to stop maintaining the reputation of scum like that, and, indeed, the myth of WW2 as a "good war" in general.

I must say though, in response to sanrene's more insane remark,

Quote:
The Brits not only tortured, they reduced Berlin to rubble, killing tens of thousands of civilians. Seeing as how Hitler had no compunction doing the same to London, it was well justified.
Nothing your enemy can possibly do justifies avenging yourself on his countrymen, women, and children. If you disagree with this, you are at the precise moral level of Osama bin Laden.

Have we ever had a president so ignorant of recent history?

British treatment of POWs was orders of magnitude better that what awaited British or Empire service men in the areas under German control. Many of Britains German POWs owed their capture to the RAF who downed 1,500 German planes over Britain in 1940-41. Life may have been hard for the captured Germans but supplies were sometimes short due to the German Kreigsmarine. Also German bombing killed nearly 40,000 Londoners during the Battle of Britain. I think Mr Churchill showed great humanity during the war. Would you have had Mr. Chamberlin or Lord Halifax in his place?

You misunderstand.

I have no problem with how German POW's were treated, or the bombing runs on Berlin.

I was just pointing out that obama had it wrong in the presser when he brought up Churchill as an example of rejecting "torture". The Brits did indeed torture.

That's all.

Chamberlain was a weak lamb (like obama) who caused great suffering with his appeasement strategy.

More people chiming in to tell obama he doesn't know what the h*** he's talking about. His own grandfather was tortured....under Churchill no less.

He must have forgotten the reason why he removed Churchill's bust from the Oval Office.

Obama praises Churchill, the man who had his grandfather tortured | Irish News | IrishCentral

Quote:
President Barack Obama’s grandfather, Hussein Onyango Obama, must be turning over in his grave.

Winston Churchill — the man who ordered his torture during the Kenyan war of independence — was being praised by his grandson for not using torture. What a laugh.

Obama cited Britain as a country that never resorted to torture during war during his prime-time press conference on Tuesday night.

“London was being bombed to smithereens [and] had 200 or so detainees. And Churchill said, ‘We don’t torture,’†Obama said. “Churchill understood, you start taking shortcuts, and over time, that corrodes what’s best in a people.â€

Excuse me, Mr. President: Churchill did condone torture and he did use torture — and advocated using poison gas and concentration camps. And he was quite proud to do so, writing about it frequently as a means to an end.

I don’t know whose Kool-Aid Obama was drinking, but it must have been supplied by the British Embassy in bucketfuls.
What a dunce.

You've yet to present a single piece of evidence linking Churchill to torture. Sorry.

Try again.
How patethic that an American would search for justification to torture. Sad day in America.

The point of the thread is that, once again, obama is ignorant of history.

Churchill was in charge when these POW's were tortured - he didn't actually do it himself, though.

Now, I guess we can take your spin and apply it to Bush, right?

The government, under Churchill, sanctioned torture - obama was flat-out clueless to hold Churchill up as an example of altruistic behavior.

Btw, I have no problem with it.

What a dunce.
I think the main point here is that Obamanation shows his ignorance every time he opens his mouth. Supposedly he has a high IQ and graduated from Harvard. Hummmmm could be that is why he had his records sealed. Low grades. Obama did not know enough to correct the teleprompter he just followed along. That my friend is not inteligence.

That is exactly the point.

Doesn't anyone in the WH research this stuff?
