This is why it is dumb to expect a child to have an affiliation to a political party. Teach them critical thinking skills, not trying to sway them from one party to the next.

She replied, I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people.
Her parents beamed.

Wow...what a worthy goal, I told her, But you don't have to wait until
you're President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow the lawn,
pull weeds, and sweep my driveway, and I'll pay you $50. Then I'll take you
over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out every day, and
you can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house.

She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in
the eye and asked, Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work,
and you can just pay him the $50??

I said, Welcome to the Republican Party!

Her parents still aren't speaking to me.

I remember a couple of people posting this email last Christmas. The one about the little girl running for class president, too.

Yup, I hear 'ya. I occasionally get on these email lists from a couple of my more, um, "intense" conservative friends ("Obama's a socialist, a traitor, an illegal,...etc."), and actually that's fine. But have noticed they do get a mite cranky if I disagree. Probably all of us need to just lighten up a bit, and at least keep talkin' to each other!

Why do conservatives make up so many fables to back up their ideology?

Can you find the one about the class president??? I also like that one, fits perfectly what we have now, IMO.

Interesting, isn't it. As BigHouse9 said earlier in the thread, the story is a "representative anecdote" and "seems all too true." Representative to whom exactly? Oh, to those who think "seeming true" and actually being true are the same thing.

I just saw the "Soloist" so no but having them walk the streets does no good either and I also think a lot of homeless people right now would take exception to you saying they are mentally insane. Most have just fallen on hard times.

Why would anyone send the ACLU a religious card? You do realize that the ACLU has sued and won, dozens of times, against the government on religious freedom grounds?

They can question it all they want. If some of them are psychologically unfit to take care of themselves, then it's just a fact.

If the story were written by the Bros Grimm.

"I recently asked my friend's little girl what she wanted to be when she
grows up. She said she wanted to be President some day. Both of her
parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there, so I asked her, If you were
President what would be the first thing you would do?
She replied, I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people.
Her parents beamed.

Wow...what a worthy goal, I told her, But you don't have to wait until
you're President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow the lawn,
pull weeds, and sweep my driveway, and I'll pay you $50. Then I'll take you
over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out every day, and
you can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house.

She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in
the eye she said, "that's a great idea, because the homeless lady doesn't have anyone to keep her child while she is mowing the lawn, pulling the weeds or sweeping the driveway. The homeless man, can't suppress is schizophrenic paranoia and will think that the guy who pulls the weeds is trying to kill the guy sweeping the driveway even both men are himself."

And then after a moment she looked in the eyes again and said with a big smile, "what if I pulled your mowed your lawn, pulled your weeds and swept your driveway for $50.00 would you also be willing to match a percentage of that amount to feed and cloth the homeless since every one other than a Republican would know that $50.00 isn't going to put a dent into the problem facing the homeless!"

Her parents still are speaking you me...
