Over the last several months, there's been a lot of "gay news" in the media. How has it changed your opinions of gays, if at all?

None at all. I think that Perez chick is a [MOD CUT/crude and offensive language] but thats about it.

I dont care what they do in private as long as its not hurting anyone else. (same goes for a number of other things)

You forgot an option:

The controversies haven't changed my opinions about gays - I still carry the same beliefs I had about gays before the "controversy".

I would have voted for that one.

I am not for gay marriage, but I don't have an unfavorable opinion about gays.

They are people just like everyone else and should be treated equally. With marriage, gays are already treated equally technically. Gay men can marry women, gay women can marry men.

Anyway, I don't think anyone should have to deal with employment discrimination, hate crimes, being publicly humiliated, etc. just because they are gay. I will say that all the controversies have made me think more about homosexuals - I've had limited exposure to them in my life. Now I'm starting to see that they're people too. It doesn't mean I support gay marriage however.

That would be option #3. You must have missed it.

No change at all. I support equal rights for all.

Very interesting. Even the controversies that a lot of people see as negative have made gays seem more human to you.

Thanks for your comment.

Agreed! If anything, it has made me MORE supportive of gay rights.

The intolerance of others being expressed by people who claim to be seeking tolerance for themselves has lowered my sympathy/support for "gay rights".

Since I don't watch a lot of tv, (just the local news in the morning) I have no idea what you mean by "the Perez Hilton thing" - not even sure who he/she is! But I have been doing message boards/forums on gay rights issues for ten years now and I'm still arguing on the side of the GLBT community. I still think those who are against it have their heads in a place I won't name and they really don't have a clue about the issues at all. And, in my opinion, it's because they really don't want to understand. Most of them, while they use religious arguments, are merely parroting what they've heard or read from their pastors and Christian/Conservative sites like Worldnet Daily or others I've seen but don't recall the names of. In ten years of trying to debate this topic I have yet to hear or read even ONE clear, concise, non-religious reason why gays and lesbians should not be allowed to marry.
