Quote:
The Obama administration today unveiled details of a $3.4 trillion federal budget for the fiscal year beginning in October, a proposal that includes substantial increases for a number of domestic priorities as well as a plan to trim or eliminate 121 programs at a savings of $17 billion.
Quote:
Congressional Republicans immediately denounced the cuts as insufficient when some details of them emerged yesterday. The criticism drew a retort this morning from White House budget director Peter Orszag, who went on MSNBC to stress that the cuts are just a start on the long-term work of curbing government spending, notably the growth of the Medicare and Medicaid health care programs.

In any case, Orszag said, "$17 billion a year is not chump change by anyone's accounting."

This will be interesting...

I think it's funny that all of the sudden republicans are pretending to be fiscally conservative.

Well they have to "stand for something" in opposition to the incubant party. Unfortunately American voters will buy into it and put Republicans in office again if the Trillion dollar budget causes more economic harm then good.

Agreed, but someone needs to be, unlike those Democrats who made no attempt at doing so when they held Congress during Bush..

I think it's funny that Obama slammed Repubs and Bush for all the "spending" and deficit they were growing, and he thinks cutting 17 billion out of a budget after tripling the deficit is being fiscally responsible. Oh, and what about all that "transparency" and those 3-4 billion jobs that are supposed to be created? Current tally--losing 600K jobs per month. Jobs created by stimulus--- 150K. Talk about delusional.

Yes, which is why the GOP needs to re-establish itself as a truly fiscally conservative party. The spendathon will increase the debt and someone will have to pick up the pieces.

I think the majority of what obama does is quite funny, in a pathetic sort of way.

If you think about it, the private sector can create, or lose 500,000 jobs a month, total cost to taxpayers $0...
Government creates 150,000 jobs (which hasnt even taken place), total cost, Trillions.

Anyone with half a brain would prefer option A..

The best thing to happen to the Republican party, complete and total control of the Democrats.. The problem, when Republicans regain power, they will most likely just spend like they did under Bush..
