I know you addressed this later in the same post, but if it's not a religious institution, how come Republicans always argue that "marriage is an institution consecrated by God and always has been...".

IMO, it shouldn't be "marriage" unless it's through a religious institution, and CUs and marriage need to be recognized as "equal" under the law.
