Your statement is nonsense. I thought justice is supposed to be blind. I don't care where she came from. The only thing I want to know is that she is following the constitution word for word. Clearly she can't do that.
If you cannot specifically address any of my argument, then your comments don't add to the discourse.
What is the point of the scales if justice is blind? If she's blind, she can't see the scales to even form judgments? Weighed in the balance becomes pointless if you cannot evaluate either side.
And NOBODY follows the Constitution word for word. The Supreme Court interprets the Constitution. Clearly, since she's been handing down such interpretation for several years, she can do that.
I think in essence what she was trying to say was that: It would be a shame if a Latina woman (minority) wasted her different and varied life experiences on making bad judgments as she would have more to lose than someone who is middle class and white and who may have not had the same experiences.
1. The above is what should have been said if she were a politician.
2. I don't know the original context of what she said.
3. It would be impossible and inhuman to take the content of the constitution word for word.

I don't think that response was nonsense at all. Everything said was very well put but the problem with it (to me) is that I think that's a reflection of what she should have said and not what she actually said.
Here's the direct quote, "Whether born from experience or inherent physiological or cultural differences, a possibility I abhor less or discount less than my colleague Judge Cedarbaum, our gender and national origins may and will make a difference in our judging. Justice [Sandra Day] O’Connor has often been cited as saying that a wise old man and wise old woman will reach the same conclusion in deciding cases…I am also not so sure that I agree with the statement.
First, as Professor [Martha] Minnow has noted, there can never be a universal definition of wise. Second, I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life."
Sotomayor is saying that she is not especially bothered by the fact that judges may be using their own ethicity and/or gender to come to different decisions. This gives the impression that she doesn't believe Justice should be blind and impartial
If that's not a racist statement then I really don't know what is if you go by the definition of the word:
Racism - belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement.
are you trying to be funny or just plain stupid? I get it, both!
That is a real strong word there, stupid...
That statement she made about white men
was plain stupid and she admitted she would
like a do over. Why is OK for a minority to say
a racist comment like that, but not for white men?
It's accepted if your a minority. That is beautiful.
I guess being born in NYC and Puerto Rico being a commonwealth of the US menas nothing to those who continually choose to be uninformed.
I personally did no research on where this broad was born or what country she was from. Obama is very pleased to have a radical in the Supreme Court.
