Liberals and Independents-would you vote or even consider the GOP if there was no religious right?

If you are a Republican, please do not vote. Thank you for your understanding.

I honestly think I would consider the GOP much much more if there was no religious right hijacking.

Thanks.

It depends.....but more than likely I would.
I consider myself more libertarian for the most part so if they are a libertarian brand of a Republican, they have my vote.

Well....you realize the social issues are more likely to be handled through court decisions or state votes; correct?

So what's stopping you from voting GOP now?

Right. I think conservatives have some good ideas as well. I would have no problem voting for a Conservative if he or she had good ideas and would lead the country based on logic and reasoning versus the Bible.

It is the whole imposing religion into the government that I do not like.

Why???Look at the mess they left us in economically. Not to mention they took a surplus that could have been used to pay down the debt and gave it too the rich along with trillions more that we borrowed from abroad..

That is true. But have you considered why this war in Iraq happened? I personally do believe some of it is the whole "God told us! God told me! This is the Crusades" as Bush was saying.

Perhaps if we had someone who not from the religious right, we would not have had this need to invade Iraq and call it a Crusade.

This is one reason why I am against the religious right.

Same here. I liked the McCain that ran against Bush in the Primaries, not the one that the GOP got ahold of in '08.

What I'm saying is that abortion has been addressed by court decisions and has been attempted to be addressed through ballot initiatives (in case you weren't aware, there have been several states voting on abortion over the past few years); gay marriage is being addressed by ballot initiatives as well. Those are the two main things that most people feel the religious right wants to be involved in.

You make a good point that the war could have been somewhat related to the Bible, though.
