is it me, or does it seem like there is a lot of british people showing up on american television? there seems to be several british reporters and journalists on CNN, MSNBC, and even fox. shows like nanny 9-11, kitchen nightmares, hell's kitchen, and american idol are all centered around a british host. what's up with this trend? I think that some americans respond to any accent that isn't southern or midwestern.

I think it's because you can slap a foreign accent on anything and sell it to a liberal. just like you can slap a redneck accent on anything and sell it to a republican. it just seems like lots and lots of brits on the news networks.

The Republicans need class right now more than ever.

Well, yes I would agree with that general statement. The British have the advantage of being able to interact with a much more diverse group of people in person and are closer to the action in the middle east so it is probably a heck of a lot cheaper to get the brit to go somewhere than fly a U.S. correspondent halfway around the world to get the same info.
As for entertainment...they probably get paid a hell of a lot better here than in the UK, and if I lived in the UK right now I'd be trying to get out anyway I could.

The entertainment industry has always had a large number of Brits.
The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton and Phil Collins are English.
Sean Connery, Patrick Stewart, Kate Beckinsale, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Daniel Day-Lewis, Rupert Everett, Ralph Fiennes are all in some way British.
Mel Gibson, Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman are Australian.
The following TV programs were adapted from British series:
All in the Family
Dear John (U.S. TV series)
Sanford and Son
Three's Company
Three's a Crowd
Weakest Link (US game show)
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (US game show)
Whose Line Is It Anyway?

wow, that was out of nowhere.
brits are popular in the US because of liberals. huh.
Even the all the ones who are near undetectable clothed in American accents? There's a ton of em these days you'd never know until someone tells you.

You're observation is correct. But, not to worry. The British have always admired and loved America (I know this to be true from personal experience, as I was once a field service tech, and traveled a lot; I know these people, and they are lovely people, really).
They are also (many of them) warning America not to go down the road we are following. They know where it leads (government run health care is one issue).
They worry that America will no longer be the beacon of hope to the world. We are (with this administration) snubbing our allies, and letting some in the world down (Iran, Israel) who have looked to us to support them in times of trouble, as they struggel to achieve or preserve freedom in their own countries.
Let the British come. We need them, and they need us.
