Why were f-16 fighter jets sent up to escort Payne Stewarts private jet on 25 October 1999 Payne Stewart Plane Crash Information , but in 2001 when 4 major airliners veer off course and no jet fighters were sent up. I have always wondered this. I still think it was our government creating a reason to go into the middle east due to the oil there. Granted the terrorist aboard the planes were true terrorist, but they were hired by the CIA or other national security agencies in my opinion unknowingly. So in essence you had real terrorist doing real terrorism allowed to happen like the Japenese Invasioin of Pearl Harbor was by Roosevelt to start WW2. If America did not go into the middle east it would of been Russia. What do the you think the movie Charlie Wilson's War was all about. America and Russia have been at each others throats for the last 30 years over the middle east, and who do you think is funding the terrorist in the middle east now, Russia of course. The world we live in is a mess, and most Americans are to busy in their daily lives, and take main stream news to be fact. You have to dig for the truth!!!!! Oil is vital to the world wide economy, and thank goodness we have our military there protecting the vital interest, and not Russian troups. We did just push them out of Afghanistan in the late 1980's remember.
Stewart's plane was out of control/pilotless, so an eyeballing was done. Also it was aloft for several hours until running out of fuel.
With the 9/11 planes the only one that "wandered" was the one that crashed in PA. As it was, a grounding order was issued about 9:30 but it would still take several hours to get everything on the ground. If you don't believe that go to a busy airport and watch the way the airplanes come in and the intervals they have to maintain.
Had fighters been scrambled, then what? At that time there was no protocol to shoot down an airliner. I imagine that may have changed.

Reason: spelling
Well, in the case of NYC, where in the hell do you shoot them down? It's hell raining from the sky if you do. Also, nothing like this had ever happened before. There was no protocol to deal with the entirely unexpected.
TIn hat moment: I do believe that the airplane that crashed in PA was shot down by fighters scrambled from some of the classified airfields in the pgh area.

thats not possible...if it happen there would be debris all over the place and not just at one spot. there are recording from inside of the plane when the passangers attack the cockpit.

Where are those exactly? As a bit of an aviation freak and having grown up in that area I never saw any.
The other piece is that no one had ever crashed a hijacked aircraft, they always landed and demands were made. That was the training the aircrews had.
As I said, tin foil hattery. But as to the airfields, I have seen secured hangers at repair facilities. Vague, I know, but I'm unwilling to disclose any more. Also, keep I mind that some of those fighters are specc'd for short range takeoff.
