Speculation is that this is a step towards running for POTUS or VP in 2012, it frees her from the constraints imposed on candidates while still in public office. But we don't know for sure. IMO, she has Potomac Fever, and has it bad, along with Newt Gingrich. But it also seems way too early to start politicking.

Oh, she's done in politics. Toast. She's a quitter under pressure. No way in hell the Republican party allows her within a hundred miles of a place in national politics. She will never, ever be able to live this down, politically.
