"President Obama, still traveling abroad, responded to increasing criticism that the Economic Recovery Act that he pushed through Congress is not working to prevent job losses in a still-struggling economy.
In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama said those critics -- which include many GOP leaders in Congress -- have little credibility.

"When we passed this Recovery Act, there were those who felt that doing nothing was somehow an answer," he said. "Today, some of those same critics are already judging the effort a failure although they have yet to offer a plausible alternative."

I am trying to remain neutral here but regardless of your political affiliation, do you think his plan will eventually work or should we call it a failure already?

I agree with the lack of a plausible alternative from the critics. And since it took us awhile to get to this point, I can't see where there's a quick way to get out. We've tried the tax-cuts-for-the-rich/fewer-restrictions-on-banks approach and look where that got us. We're in unknown territory here, and if nothing else, at least the free fall taking place in December/January has leveled out.

Of course, many, if not most on the right will say the plan's a failure no matter what happens; even if it proves to be wildly successful over time, they'll find some point to nit pick about.

It will work but it is not going to work in a month or 2. But it will work.

it won't work because you can't spend your way out of debt.

obama had alternatives but he won't address them at all. he could do something about the cost of illegal immigration and he could do something about our trade agreements to boost manufacturing income. if you are trying to balance your budget, first you cut expenses and i don't see him doing any of that! government is getting bigger and out of control under obama. plus, cap and trade will be a nightmare for american manufacturing and weaken our country as an industrial power. (maybe that is what he is trying to do, who knows?)
