I saw the original question... and my answer was no since torture doesn't guarantee a truthful answer. And then there are other reasons not to torture which have been provided in this thread and previous threads.

Is that clear enough?

True..

Why is that so hard for some to get?

True..

Ok! For some of you whom are a little slow on the uptake, I will try to be more specific. September 10th 2001, The CIA has captured Ahab abdul hussein kahlid shiek muhammed ragaroundmyhead, they have been following chatter that has led them to him as the only person that has the specific time of a spectacular terrorist attack on US soil, that they already KNOW is going to happen, do they waterboard him and find out the exact time and date or not.

Wrong.. and that should be evident by my first response to you, now if you actually feel that way about yourself, I can not help that....... As I said I dont even want to discuss if it is or isnt torture, but I will say, myself, if I knew I could indeed stop 3000 Americans from dying, by torturing someone I would..sorry...........

This is because you live in a fantasy world where action A produces result B.

Your assumption is that you get information that would indeed allow you to stop the attack. That's not a given....

Look, if I knew for sure that putting someone through excruciating pain would save thousands of lives... yeah, I guess I'd do it. But my point is... the answer you get could be pure garbage. Given the damage torture has caused us, and the fact that it doesn't necessarily give you a truthful answer, I wouldn't use it. Wasn't it Khalid Shaikh Mohammed who provided accurate intelligence before they started water boarding him?

Okay, I must admit that I took the poll before reading the Q. After reading the Q, I must say that if I knew for a FACT that I could stop the terrorist attack on 911, I would do much more than waterboarding. But not in the capacity of a government/military official. I'd go awol or quit and then take care of biz.
