Would he have still been nominated for the Supreme Court?

That's been picked at ever since her statement came to light. Why resurrect a decidedly dead horse?

The answer is obvious!

I would hope not. That statement would be racist.

I agree with her. A wise Latina can often come to a better conclusion than a white male because most of the white males on the Federal Appeals bench came from privledged homes and privledged backgrounds. They have never had to sweat for anything or had to worry about paying the bills. They have spent their lives around others who are like them. They do not understand nor do they care about regular working people. A wise Latina who grew up in the hardscrabble Bronx does.

Well now, you can't hold liberals and conservatives to the same standard.

That would be unfair.

'Justice' Ginsburg's recent comments regarding Roe v Wade come to mind.

So why the witch hunt when Justice Thomas was nominated?

Does your statemet only hold true for liberal nominees?

DANG! I never knew there were no whites who grew up in the hard-scrabble Bronx and weren't capable of learning the lessons that were there for them.

Whoda thunket?

I guess if you're going to be one-sided, unthinkling and irrational you might as well go all out!

All very true. And politically incorrect to say, and meant in an entirely different way than saying someone "lacks" capabilities because of their racial background or is less able to render a judgment because of their racial background. . The two mean entirely different things. This is my take on her statement

One being able to arrive at a more "wise" decision as a Latina woman is simply a product of her experiences, and it can be her upbringing, or it can be her exposure to how crime can manifest itself amongst the poor. Its a statement of fact. She has been exposed to public housing and, while an inspiring success story, her experiences do put her in a better position to rule on SOME socio-economic issues.

Judge Alito himself made mention of his Jewish heritage and upbringing and said it helped him reach better conclusions in some instances. It's not a big deal, both statements have merit

If Alito had said "A White male usually judges better than a Latina"?
Would he have still been nominated for the Supreme Court?
