The law about 4 years is a nice start, but there are many other problems.

Yes, there are slimebags who deserve to be jailed and have this dog them for their lives.

But everyone? And to have a published national registry?
Parents, relatives, etc., of offenders (no matter what stripe) get harassed.

Registered offenders can't get work, what are they supposed to do?

Seriously, and not facetiously, what are they supposed to do for money, a place to live, etc.

I wish I had an answer; I don't. If they can't get work, or find a stable place to live, they're be more inclined to re offend.

I like the four year law too.

That's what so difficult about people who see one-point of an issue.
Everything is moer complex than it looks on the surface.

Epic!

I think if we are to increase the severity, then we need to adjust some of the sex offender action list. I know about 4 guys I went to highschool with that now would love to try to be respectable adults, but every year the sex offender list comes out in the local newspaper and always has their address and picture in it for having sex with a 15 year old when they were 19. That can stay illegal sure, but lets not loop in dumb kids with rapist.

Suddenly, you are a registered sex offender.
You can't get a job, you have people stalking you.
There's no place where you can live, even though you really did nothing wrong.

What say you about these circumstances?
I'd say you have to adjust your definition of "wrong". The boy/man in your example needs to be aware if the girl he's with is *legally* unaderage and act accordingly, despite what his stiff willy may be telling him while in the backseat. As to the consequences, well, I'd say "we live by our choices and he made some bad ones." Pay the piper!

And I agree with a national published directory, complete with photos and addresses. My state has one, and I check it regularly in an effort to protect my family. I found that a nearby attraction has a registered offender working there and refuse to take my kids there. I called and spoke to the manager, letting him know of my choice and that I've passed the information to other parents in the community. He assured me that the employee is not in regular contact with patrons and offered me free passes. I said I would not feel comfortable bringing my children until I know this man is no longer working there. Management can decide if losing business is worth keeping this scumbag on the payroll.

Losing a job? Tough! There's no punishment harsh enough for someone who has done to kids what this man did.

There is such a place in Washington DC it is located on C-Street near the US Capital. Several well known sex offenders have lived or live there.

If the girl is under 18 (or 17 in some states) it is not "consensual', it is a crime

The one's who were 19 and had sex with a 17 year old who consented...remove the sex offender tag. Same goes for those caught peeing in public.

The ones who raped or molested should go to jail for life without parole. Take out those in jail because they were caught with pot and replace them with the rapists/molesters.

Whenever a child goes missing, the first people the police look at besides the parents are neighborhood sex offenders. There have been too many cases of murdered children killed by sex offenders who should have been in jail.

Please forgive me but this is the DUMBEST thing I have ever heard. People who rape do not rape for the sex they rape for the power and control. And even if you did this what about pedophiles? They want children not adults.

A sex offender IMO can NOT be rehabilitated so they should be in jail for LIFE or in the case where death was caused they should be killed. That many sound harsh but this is one area I have ZERO sympathy.
