the part about Obama saying --" it was not racial"--did not get him into hot water.

Using the "stupid" word did and even Obama admitted he should not have used it. ( after he recieved a lot of heat from policemen and citizens )

Using the " stupid" word was casting judgement on something that Obama should have kept his nose out of.

Obama never used the most taboo word in our PC culture, stupid, that is.

His words were, "acted stupidly".

So, you see, there was nothing personal about his statement.

Crowley is free to take it personally all he wants.

It seems both Crowley and Gates are quick to take things personally.

They are both immature!

A lot of people don't understand the difference. I think that's reflective of our public educational system more than anything else.

We are getting way off topic here. First of all, I am not a Conservative but the language Gates used is very racist. I am going to try to justify it like some partisan Democrat probably would, the whole "blacks are victims" "poor Black guy!"type of mentality. When I put myself in Obama's position, I could never be "friends" with someone like Gates, I am sure Obama would think Gates is ignorant regardless of his "intellectual" status based on his comments, unless Obama agrees with at least some of his ideas. Naturally, I would think Obama is too smart to even use words like "whitey" but maybe he is not.

For centuries white people bought and sold black people. For decades white people lynched black people without any fear of punishment. For generations white people prevented black people from receiving equalty in education, employment, housing, etc. For generations white people would not allow black people to vote or hold public office.

But after all that history, some white folks are shocked and amazed.....and down right insulted to learn that not all black people love all white people and are not walking around just being eternally grateful that...at this point in time....the white man isn't selling him or lynching him. How dare they feel any negativity toward white people.

AND YET we have had ONLY ONE black man elected president and some white folks are just going nuts imagining themselves as oppressed and under attack and feel fully justified in disliking black people for these imagined slights.

WOW.

LML, although i agree with some of the contents here, you have to admit that Gates acted like a pure a'hole. This entire situation was taken to a place that it should not have been and it began with Gates.

Well, it wasn't entirely...BUT what does that have to do with the experience of all the generations of black people living in the U.S?

if their people wouldn't have been so willing to sell their own we wouldn't have been able to have them as slaves. they were so easy to get. go ahead and look past that though.....or make up an excuse.
