What's grandfathered in like anything?

Could you please clarify your post?

There is new ivory available. I'm not really into it so I can't help much. Some of it is available from Alaskan Natives. Some countries in Africa in fact have overpopulations of elephants and hunting is allowed and hunters can bring that ivory back home. And not all ivory comes from elephants, in case you didn't know. A substantial amount is from other animals.

It is only certain forms and from certain places that is banned...ivory from elephants in particular where they are endangered. Elephant ivory seems to be most heavily regulated, other sources less so. This article is very slanted but it does explain a little about the sources of legal (and illegal I suppose) elephant ivory: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/n...-us-ivory.html

'Grandfathered in' means when something becomes illegal but you entered in your position before the law, comes up a lot with property, and in this case, owning Ivory before the ban .

OK

As another poster pointed out though (correctly so), not all Ivory is banned. Only Ivory from certain regions

I don't think you were suppose to bring back new ivory, I don't see any change on this but hey, I'm not a lawyer or customs agent

The law is complex, not a total ban. I don't really know all the ins and outs of it. I have little interest in it (my antique piano has ivory keys and my grandfather's gun from WWI has ivory grips, otherwise I'm not really into ivory as I said). One of my old teachers I'm in contact with now and then still collects ivory carvings, especially Native American ones. Most are old, some are new. They're all legal, what he has.
