Have you ever been to San Francisco?

It's hardly a nanny state.

People are allowed to do a heck of a lot of things up there.

After all, it's one of the more LIBERAL cities in America for a reason...people are free to do a lot more than in many other cities. Go to Haight Street and tell me it's a nanny state...a nanny state would never have anything like that.

NYC is more of a nanny state than San Francisco.

SAN DIEGO is MUCH MORE of a Nanny State than San Francisco, they even busted the (legal under state law) Medical Marijuana clubs here while San Francisco allowed them to freely open and conduct business. So if anywhere is a "nanny state" in California, it's the conservative stronghold of San Diego.

Boy, you need to visit because your impression is off-base. San Francisco is where people feel free to celebrate themselves. The trouble comes from "normal" people not wanting other people to have that freedom.

The individuals here who are claiming that Bay Area cities don't like the military, you are all wrong. What they don't want is the super aggressive and misleading recruiters targeting their youth. It's OK if someone wants to join the military, more power to them. But they don't want the military preying on innocent young men and women by making false claims and promises, which they have been well-documented doing. Why is that so bad? You wouldn't want sexual predators in your neighborhood, right? Why do you tolerate this behavior where you live? I'm with these cities in this regard. If you're so biased and irrational that you see this as a carte blanche dismissal of everything military, you need an education. Or turn off Fox for a few days.

The reason why SF is worse than LV according to Republicans is that everything in LV is understandable to them. SF is easier to hate because the people there are not what they can relate to, apparently. I would say it's far easier to demonize people you label as "weird" than your next door neighbor.

My father is a white, heterosexual, moderate who worked for the GOP for decades, wealthy, born in America, patriotic and religious man. He's a very respected man in the bay area and would never consider leaving.

Plus, look at "The Olympic Club", the famous golf course that's hosted a number of US Opens. It is basically all white, all christian, all male and all-heterosexual. In fact, another country club had to open up nearby that caters to those who aren't part of the Country Club image of WASPs at The Olympic Club.

It's stupid posts like this that show how ignorant some people are on the far right. I'm a Republican, but a progressive one who leans to the Libertarian side, so seeing how ignorant and paranoid the GOP is on the right wing is pretty sad to me.

Just because you say something or heard an idiot like Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity say it, doesn't mean it's true.

Plus, do you have any idea how much of this country owes to the San Francisco bay area? The entire economy of this country comes from just a handful of cities and SF is in the top 3. All the major Venture Capital firms are there (businesses don't start without VC money), all but a few of the major computer companies are there, Pharmaceuticals are hugely based there, many research ideas come from Berkeley or Stanford and the tax revenue of a city of aobut 500,000 people with a significant amount of money (SF is a RICH city, not poor, you have to be pretty stupid to think it's a commie enclave when the average house costs $630,000 or $513/square foot. People don't afford those through communism, they afford them through capitalism...which San Francsico is a beautiful example of.

It goes to show you, the reason why people hate San Francisco is one of two things: ignorance or homophobia.

You are not a Republican, you are a RINO (Republican In Name Only) and your remarks pretty much indicate that.In case you didnt know,"progressive" is a code word for Marxist/Leninist.I have spent time in the Bay Area,I do not form opinions based on what Rush/O'Reilly/Hannity,et all have said.Your remarks about business ventures apply to the Silicon Valley area to the south;SF,Berkeley, and Marin County are the Bolshevik strongholds that draw conservative wrath and contempt.

a city built by the mafia and full of gambling, prostitution and known for their drive-thru weddings.

What's more important for republicans?
Political affiliation (being a brainwash ideologue that hates a city where more that 51% votes against their party)
or moral values and family values (stand up against gambling, prostitution and drive-thru weddings).

Damn, i need a poll:
What city is worse?
San Francisco - It's full of homosexuals and socialists
Las Vegas - It's full of prostitutes, gambling and they have drive-thru weddings

Nothing wrong with San Francisco buts the groups you alluded to. As a real American who earned that right as my parents and grandparents did, you values are un-American and un-Christian and that is what made America great. Diversity is great but perversity is an evil throughout the ages. Nothing is natural about your representation of those groups, and it is againist God's will - at least we and our Moslem friends can agree on that fact. But they deal with it where we tolerate it - so our values have sunk into the morass that blemishes a beautiful city...

When San Francisco rejoins the morals of the USA, then it will earn its rightful place as somewhere I want my family to live. At present, Sodom and Gomorrah would be welcomed as compared to the evil of this city and its denizens.

Radicalism. Things like this. Or this. And this.

There's the answer,
republicans don't care about values. There's a dozen other things that they consider to be more important.

San Francisco (named after St Frances BTW) is a bastion of individual liberty in a sea of conservative social controllers that hate individualism unless it is just like theirs. I have visited San Francisco and enjoyed the city and the people I have met.

Las Vegas, NV is one of the grand temples of MAMMON on Earth that celebrates its Pagan worship with every turn of a card or a trick. You can buy anything in Vegas no matter what your perversion although the weirder or more destructive the higher the price. It is a city of lies, deceit and treachery. Las Vegas is a microcosm of the inequity that dominates America’s hypocritical capitalist class. Remember, anything that happens in Las Vegas, stays in Las Vegas, except for drug addiction and STD’s. Now there are gifts that keep on giving.
