No, I’m saying that. I mean like I said I’m sure there are some expressive and dramatic straight men – but the ones I’m referring to just seem so scripted – I can understand being outgoing, expressive, etc but sometimes I feel like they’re putting on a show. It’s almost as if they are trying to live up to the stereotype. Again, I’m really not trying to be nasty I’m just making an observation. There’s a guy who used to sit next to me in the call center and his name is Terrance but he called himself Terezzz (he didn’t spell it with all those z’s but that’s how he would pronounce it – I didn’t have an issue with what he called himself but it seemed like Terrance and Terez were two different people) If he were just talking to me or the girl who sat on the other side of him, it would just be regular conversation, normal tone and volume and pretty standard workplace chitchat; but when we got in a group he’d be super loud calling everybody “child” and “girlfriend” and he would get this sudden accent out of nowhere where he slurred and dragged out the words – it just didn’t seem real and I always wondered if he did because that’s what he thought people expected or if it were easier to be accepted.
It’s like if you ever go into a black neighborhood (especially a lower income one) they’re all pretty much the same. When you see them represented in movies or television they’re always hairdressers or selling purses, shoes, etc.
I hope I didn’t offend anyone because that was not my intention.
