Why does wanting a car with good build quality make you a snob?
I will continue to buy cars that suit my needs of performance, price, and quality. I, like most people and I would guess most liberals, don't care where the car comes from. Most Japanese cars, like the Camary and Accord, are built in the US.
I think the one of the major reasons why the American car companies have been so reluctant to change is that there are so many Americans that will only "buy American" and not buying the best car for the money. This sent the wrong economic signals to GM, Ford, and Dodge and was further clouded by the SUV craze.
I am sorry you had to go through that. Well, except for the Camaro.
Funny you said that about the Camaro. The Camaro was the worst car I ever owned. All the windows leaked when it rained and it had the 250 inline six cylinder engine. This was the slowest and poorest handling car I ever owned. The Buick Skyhawk was a four speed manual and was fun to drive on winding country roads. The Cavalier RS sedan was reliable right up until a Ford F-250 ran a yield sign and slammed into my driver's side front fender. When both vehicles stopped moving, the F-250 was on the hood of my car. The engine and transmission still ran fine. My Malibu is the fastest and best handling of the cars I've owned. I have only two problems with my Malibu. One is the Dexcool coolant that eventually eats away at the intake gasket. I had the intake gasket replaced with the GM approved replacement gasket and bolts. The other is the AC control panel. Though I've had it replaced several times it still sometimes acts up causing the compressor to shut off occasionally. I've figured out how to keep the compressor running. Love the interior passenger space, dashboard layout, and trunk space. If I bought another vehicle right now, it'll probably be the new kia Forte. I checked it out and I really like it.
I love my Toyota & I loved the Toyota I had before this one.
Me too.
And the ones before that back to my first Corolla in 1973; $2366.00 brand new, with a five speed. $700 down, payments $60.53 per month for 36 months, 35 mpg when gas was still thirty-five cents.
It hasn't taken too many of them to cover the past 36 years of driving. They're fine automobiles.
1955 Ford sedan (used)
1966 Nova SS (327-350hp)
1969 Opel GT
1972 Malibu
1973 MG
1976 Olds Cutlass Supreme
1983 Toyota Supra
1988 Mercedes E Class
2000 Mercedes ML320
I'm don't know the exact quote, but I remember Obama saying something like, "I'm not going to run the car companies, we don't know anything about cars." Something to that effect.
He also added "we don't know anything about healthcare, either", but that was cut out of the tape.
Prior to Obama taking over General Motors, most enviromentalist and some liberal snobs hated General Motors because of their poor fuel economy (enviromentalist) or poor build quality (liberal snobs).
Are you implying that non-liberals liked the poor fuel economy and poor build quality?
Are you implying that non-liberals liked the poor fuel economy and poor build quality?
Nope. I'm saying that now that the federal government has taken over GM, some liberals seem to be supporting GM more than before the government take over.
I said some. I know not all liberals are snobs who turn their nose up towards American cars.
Just because someone doesn't want to buy American cars, doesn't mean s/he's a snob. Most people who buy foreign makes such as Toyota, Honda and Nissan instead of American makes such as Ford and GM, do so because they want to get the best value (in terms of fuel efficiency, build quality, frequency/cost of repairs, safety, features, comfort, etc) for their money.
This does not make them snobs, it makes them smart consumers.
The biggest repairs I've ever had to get with any of my Nissans or Infinitis were brake pads for the '95 and new batteries and tires for a few of the others. My husband is partial to Toyota, but I love Nissan/Infiniti and I don't think I'll own anything else for the forseeable future. This is not because I'm a snob (far from it). This is because, in my opinion, Nissan/Infiniti gives me the best value for my money, hands down.
I already answered that question in a previous post. I seriously doubt a Republican President and or Congress would be willing to give up control of Chrysler/GM. It's possible they may do so but I don't think it's very likely. Though publicly Republican politicians are against some Democratic party policies, they did not remove those policies when they held the white house and congress.
Hmmm well vehicles I've owned:
Plymouth Duster 1976 ... wow what a pos
Toyota Collora SR% lliftback...1977 - loved it... but wow its ugly today 127,000 miles
Plymouth Horizon - 1984 worst gas mileage ever 10 mpg on a good day 66,000 miles
Honda Accord -1986 - loved it 120,000 miles
Ford Explorer -1998 107,000 miles
Mustang - 1999
Mercedes 320 SLK - 2001 24,000 miles
Ford Focus - 2003 - totaled
Mazda 6 2003 - Still Have 116,000 miles
Hyundai Sonata - 2006 - still have 46,000 miles
Guess I don't think the gov is "owning" Gm any more than they did Chrysler in the 70's
