People actually have reason to worry about current policies being proposed, because this is not a socialist union. We are a free democratic country, and the policies being proposed do not fit our design. Militias are nothing new, and they only count for a very small percentage of the people we see gathering to protest. I have seen these people with my own eyes. They are just NORMAL people concerned about a government takeover of a very private part of their lives. They are concerned about a government bill which will place mandates on their healthcare. They are concerned about government bills which will raise their taxes and their general cost of living. They aren't all just crazy insurance salesmen or wild eyed militiamen. They are regular Americans, concerned about the current direction our government seems to be going.

And they are not going to go away, even if they go ahead and push this bill and all the other bills through against public opinion. There must be a compromise which involves an option to be completely left out of their plans if this is ever going to get passed and get off the ground. People want to keep this choice for themselves, and I can't blame them. But hopefully, this will not spark any sort of armed conflict. We don't need another war on American soil.
There has NOT BEEN A SINGLE GOOD REASON explained.
These people are incredibly misled and uninformed.
Its all been BS.

Obama tripling the deficit? BS
Coming for the guns? BS
Socialism? BS
Birthers? full of BS

It's quite possible and deserving that after 4 years, the incessant shriek of "Racism" will be more than enough for most citizens. After dismal failure, at least we'll be able to mark off "elect a Black President" from the National checklist.

Next on their shortlist, Liberals will demand a female President, an Hispanic, a Gay, a Transsexual, an Illegal.....but not if any, are in the slightest, conservative or religious......except Wiccan, Druid or Muslim.

Glitch, how apropos. There isn't a single payer plan up for consideration.

EVERYONE will have a choice of health care provider under the health care reform bill.
Auto insurance is primarily to protect the other driver, don't you think? I can drop collision - it is liability that is mandatory in most states.

Exactly. I've yet to hear one so-called "concern" about the public health option from these folks that wasn't rooted in the lies issuing from the right-wing Fear Chamber.

I used to be astonished that there are people who believe this crap. But then I realized that what this is REALLY about is a fundamental hatred of Obama. These are the same people who were trashing him during the campaign, from the very beginning. Willing--without question--to believe the lies that Palin circulated, and to succumb--without question--to her fear-mongering against him. Who would believe all of this utterly ridiculous nonsense except for people who were ready to believe it? And why would they be ready to believe it? Because he's a black man. It's as simple as that. It has made no difference whatsoever to these people that Obama did not utter one mean word against Palin throughout the entire campaign. Not one. Neither were there hordes of people at his rallies calling Palin "un-American" and screaming against her. Nope. Doesn't matter. For these racists, Obama has been the "Evil One" from the moment he stepped onto the national stage. Their racism is so profound, and so insane, that they are willing and ready to believe every absolutely crazy assertion thrown at them. Doesn't matter what it is. Disprove it, and they find a new one. Over and over and over again. Beck and the like keep having to raise the stakes because, to their delight (and the growth of their bank accounts), their audience is willing to believe anything they say about Obama. Anything.

KINGSTON, NY, 12 August 2009 — The natives are restless. The third shot of the “Second American Revolution” has been fired. History is being made. But just as with the first two shots, the third shot is not being heard.

America is seething. Not since the Civil War has anything like this happened. But the protests are either being intentionally downplayed or ignorantly misinterpreted.

The first shot was fired on April 15, 2009. Over 700 anti-tax rallies and “Tea Parties” erupted nationwide. Rather than acknowledge their significance, the general media either ignored or ridiculed both protests and protestors, playing on “tea bagging” for its sexual innuendo.

Initially President Obama said he was unaware of the tea parties. The White House later warned they could “mutate” into something “unhealthy.”

Shot #2 was fired on the Fourth of July, when.....Mod cut-copyright-see link for full story
This person has history all mixed up. The American Revolution was not the Civil War, it was the Revolutionary War of 1776, and some years following. The Civil War was 1861-65.

I don't care enough to look at the link, but if July4 was supposed to a watershed, not much is going to happen. I was in a quintessentially American city, Omaha, Nebraska, and most people were out watching (and, in Omaha, using) fireworks. The Tea Party there drew about 300 people as I recall, in a city with a metro area of 800,000 people.

I didn't want to believe the racism stuff, but its more and more clear as time passes and they continue to rage without reason.
And to those people hope is a bad word.
Its ridiculous.

It will be interesting to see if people can actually keep up the yelling and fear and hate for 3 more years. Most tantrums burn themselves out eventually and I can't imagine people can put their lives on hold to focus on this forever.

Given the silence of these people for the prior eight years says many things about:

1) Their intelligence

2) Their sincerity on the issue

3) Their capacity to be honest with themselves and others

4) Their hypocritical nature (Half of these town hall shout boxes are on Medicare and Social Security)

5) They are easily manipulated by sound bites and Glen Beck types

6) Their lack knowledge of the Constitution of the United States

7) Their lack of knowledge on history

8) Their lack of understanding of current events

and finally, and most important:

9) Their ignorance on the definition of "Socialism" and our history of successful socialized programs.

In other words, they are imbeciles.

It's not just the racists, it's also the extreme right wing Christians...the types depicted in Jesus Camp. They have it in their heads that Obama is the anti-Christ and is trying to usher in a one world government. They think the end-times are coming. These are the same types talking about revolution and overthrowing the government. Beck, Hannity, Rush, and others play into this paranoia by inserting the words socialism or messiah throughout their newscasts and distorting facts to suit the right's agenda (such as Beck with the Cash for Clunkers lie about the government tapping into your computer). It just amazes me that people can be so naive and believe such far-fetched things because some ratings-driven newscaster said so.

I'm one who reads from multiple sources and draws my own conclusions, because frankly every media source is at least somewhat biased. And that's a large part of the problem with America today...most simply do not think for themselves. They base their views on what they saw on TV last night or read on some conspiracy website. This is why we are getting emotional, uninformed dolts at the town hall meetings who disrupt rather than provide intelligent counter-debate or voice alternatives.

One thing I would like to know is how many of these right wingers who constantly cry "socialism!" are able to even define the term? I would guess very few. Do they even realize that the US government producing its own currency, building roads and highways, providing a system of education, and providing health care through Medicare and the VA is, by definition, socialism as well? A true capitalist society would have each and every one of these entities privatized...there would be no Department of Transportation, no Department of Education, no Amtrak, not even a Department of Defense. Corporations would train our military, build our roads, and educate our children under a true capitalist society. Instead, the word socialism has been demonized much in the same vein that McCarthyists demonized anything they perceived to be Communist or left-leaning back in the 50s. These were the same people that protested the addition of flouride to public water systems because it would supposedly weaken American children and help to instill a Communist regime within our government.

The misinformation and hysteria is downright maddening.
