WASHINGTON — Six months after President Obama launched a $787 billion plan to right the nation's economy, a majority of Americans think the avalanche of new federal aid has cost too much and done too little to end the recession.

A USA TODAY/Gallup Poll found 57% of adults say the stimulus package is having no impact on the economy or making it worse. Even more — 60% — doubt that the stimulus plan will help the economy in the years ahead, and only 18% say it has done anything to help improve their personal situation.
We could of told you that before it was passed - Oh, that's right! We did.

It was a complete waste. If Government really wanted to stimulate the economy they would focus the infusion of funds to areas that would create jobs. Giving kids backpacks for back to school, while a nice gesture, does nothing to stimulate the economy.

Back to school spree: Billionaire, feds give out $175M to aid neediest students around the state

Thanks for that post, sanrene. I saw that poll as well, and others that indicate the same thing. With just a pocket full of change spent (comparatively speaking) out of the total stimulus bill, there's been no impact and the economy hasn't collapsed (as Obama and Pelosi said it would if we didn't pass the stimulus immediately.) The market is up - anybody notice? And it isn't because of a huge infusion of money last week.

Wonder what the next "crisis" will be that they create.

That's right. And it never would have. According to the Jan 2009 CBO report, the recession would be ending late 2009/early 2010 WITHOUT any government intervention (the stimulus).

Since November in the back of my mind I had a bad feeling crap like this would start becoming the norm.

"Oh thank the lord for Obama! He's gonna give us free crap! We don't have to do a damn thing!" I know, Soros contributed a nice chunk, but I'm sure it was somehow a nice tax write off in addition to a kind gesture.

These handouts along with my generation that seems to have a severe entitlement problem will drag this country down. We'll be living Idiocracy soon enough.

Life imitates art.

That's right, you have nothing to say that would argue against the poll, so like all good liberals you did the standard party line.

"It was BUSH'S fault"

You guys are going to wear out that card soon.

Let's hope a Democratic Congress doesn't approve that action again!

That's the problem with buying a US paper, esp a rag like USA Today.

Per their OWN poll pre-stim passage, NOTHING has changed:

Public mixed on stimulus package - USATODAY.com

"WASHINGTON — Americans overwhelmingly want Congress to pass an economic stimulus bill, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds, but expectations are low that it will help their families or turn the economy around this year.
Two-thirds of those surveyed predict that Obama's package of tax cuts and new spending would boost the nation's economy, at least by a little. When it comes to their own family finances, though, half say it either would have no effect or even make things worse.
"It's sort of paradoxical: They're both supportive and pessimistic," says Charles Franklin, a political scientist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison who studies public opinion"

Just another corporate media dance (see: Akre v Fox News) to defeat Health care reform and protect their corporations' investments.
