Yes they did, and I'm okay with. MV is beautiful and his kids will love it.

And just because all other presidents have done it, isn't a good enough excuse.

eta: OTOH, it does come with the job. They need to have protection and it's not like he can stop working. I understand that. But, it would have reflected better on him in this economy.

So, Kennebunkport is slumming with average Americans?

So, a large ranch in the Santa Barbara mountains is slumming with average Americans?

I think that maybe they have to have their own lodgings in DC and the cost of that alone will be considerable in that place.

I said that only because it is the truth. I am not against this trip because I do think that his family deserves something like this and he won't be having to wear a suit and tie every day like in DC. I think the kids will enjoy their time there and even Michelle will be able to do that if the reporters can keep from calling her out because of her clothes.

Speaking of that, I wonder how many people that got all excited over that pair of shorts have spent any time in Arizona this time of year. The President may have to wear a suit and tie while there to keep up appearances but I did not think those shorts were so bad. For some reason I support her on things like dress and always think she looks "good" even when the press goes after her.

I agree with Reads2Much that they shouldn't do something so ostentatious when it will have to be reported. Whose business is it how much this costs? I think it is nobody's.

I don't understand the argument of where he vacations. That's silly. I like Martha's Vineyard, but it's not that great. Frankly, I fail to see what all the whoopla is about.

Were you asking the same question about Reagan's outrageously opulent lifestyle, while he cut social programs which resulted in entire families living in cardboard boxes?

Or how about Bush's many, many vacations?

What a silly thread.

What can you expect? They're fine with spending billions in Iraq as long as their little pets like Blackwater and Halliburton get the $$$ but the mere mention of possibly buying a BandAid for an average American sends them scurrying away in terror screaming SOCIALISM!

Someone must've found out the vacation spot isn't Republican owned

Seriously. Are we supposed to look down on Obama because he doesn't buy a ranch 1 year before his campaign, put some jeans and a cowboy hat on, and pretend not to be a spoiled Connecticut Ivy League legacy?

Grow up. Seriously.
I think that Harvard may well be in the Ivy League. Am I wrong?

So, at a time when those who are capable of spending need to spend, you are suggesting our president lead by example by locking himself in his home and not spend his money outside the Beltway?

Seriously. I'm just trying to understand the reasoning for why we should all despise our president. I get so confused sometimes with all the unmitigated hatred.
