A month after they voted to punish some corporate executives for taking hefty bonus payouts, members of the House of Representatives quietly gave their own staffers a new potential bonus by making even their top-earning aides eligible for taxpayer dollars to repay their student loans.
Don't ya just love the mentality they have..."do as I say, not as I do"......The economy is down the tubes with no mere mention of a cure in sight (matter of fact not even on their agenda), and they are giving bonuses.
It's the end of the rating cycle; funds are set aside specifically for awards and it's not very high.

The average set-aside is between 1-1.5% (for the mathematically challenged that's 0.01 - 0.015)

Doesn't matter. With our economy in such dire condition it is inappropriate to give bonuses. There should be a hiring and pay freeze.

I agree. I think they should definitely have a hiring and pay freeze in place. It would be leading by example. If a slot opened up, then they could fill it. No more hiring 20 aides when all you require is 10 though. It is a little outlandish.

Well thank you teacher. Now if they were concerned about the hours they worked for free, maybe they should have taken an hourly job. Almost every salaried employee I know works ridiculous hours and would make more if they were hourly. Instead they like the fact that if they miss a day, they still get paid the same. I still believe that they should not be getting their loans paid off just because they work for a politician. I think that they should pass it off this time. Like a lot of companies that are facing hardships, they are reducing wages by 3-5%, cutting bonuses, or cutting Christmas parties etc... .

I agree! No boo hoo for people who chose to do these salaried jobs knowing full well the hours would be long. Guess what? Taxpayers don't want to give you a bonus when our economy is going down the tubes. If your bosses are so appreciative of the extra effort you expend, let them bonus you out of their own pockets. I doubt they would turn out to be so "appreciative" if the money came out of their personal pockets.
