Every other day someone on here starts another thread about how Glen Beck is "destroying the competition" because he's got so many viewers, how he's "educating the public", how he's "exposing the Obama administrations' plans to destroy America" and on and on. It always gives me a chuckle to read things like Roysoldboy's post about how he watches the clips from Beck "over and over" so he can understand every nuance about "Obama's secret Army" and the "FEMA death camps".

The great news about people like Moderator cut: let's not make this personal and many others who watch Beck is this; they pretty much fall into the "60 to dead" demographic. Just like right wing talk radio this is the demographic that watches FoxNews and fixates (no kinder word for repeated watching of clips) on the "plots to destroy America". We don't really need to worry much about these old coots (I'm in that demo numerically, but hardly fit the stereotype), other than the fact that they usually vote. Here's why;

1. It's a shrinking pool. Not only do they die of natural causes, there just aren't the big numbers of replacements coming along. A "baby bust" followed the baby boom.

2. Sometimes they go off their meds and lose it completely. Keep hitting the gas pedal instead of the brake in their Cadillac, Lincoln or Buick. The great news is that often this happens in a place where these coots have congregated taking a few more of their ilk with them. Unfortunately it sometimes happens in public places where productive members of society hang out.

3. Sometimes some idiot gets on TV and starts touting a "miracle cure" for anything and everything. Since a paid announcer on an infomercial is obviously to be trusted over their doctor or pharmacist there's a good chance that the coot will stop taking his "Lipitor" or blood pressure med in favor of sleeping under a "crystal", or a "carved pyramid". This will thin the herd a bit too.

4. There's a chance that some of them will be so overcome because the "America I remember" (the one where Blacks knew their place, and it was far away from them, Mexicans only existed in Dorito commercials and "Indian" meant someone who lived in a "wigwam") is being "destroyed" that their blood pressure will spike and they'll keel over in their bowl of oatmeal.

5. There's always the chance that their adult children, when they show up for Thanksgiving will realize that "the old man has lost it" and either talk, beat, or medicate some sense into them. Of course if their adult kids are getting their messages from James Dobson or some other huckster this won't happen. But there is that chance.

6. They'll realize that their Medicare is just a COMMUNIST PLOT and that the city is fluoridating their water. They'll stop visiting the doctor, taking thier meds and drinking water. Dehydration is a long, slow and painful death, but I'm sure they'd prefer that to taking part in the dreaded SOCIALISM.

So, never fear thinking Americans. This group is self-thinning. The "unaware" may be all hot for Glen this week, but next week Wilford Brimley will come up with some new scheme for them and they'll be on to the next fad, or eventually they'll all just die a natural death, taking Cadillac, Lincoln and Buick with them.

The old fogies (in my opinion) have become old fogies because their ideas are still stuck in the 50's. In the meantime, the world has moved on. They will, undoubtedly, go the way of the dinosaur because they couldn't adapt to change. Instead they go crying about it.

I'm 46 years old, I've had to re-invent myself in career, parenting, thinking, etc. in order to stay in tune with my work, my kids, and my life. I personally don't understand people who want to live in the past and fear the future. That's how I see it.

Sadly my father is in that cohort. Since being diagnosed with Alzheimer's a year ago, he is watching more and more Fox News and his attitude has gotten very out of hand. Any time someone comes to the door he thinks it is the government coming to kill him.

sorry to inform you the youth of this country is more interested in celebrity gossip, Brittny Spears, iphones, text messaging, sports and music. Not whether Glen Beck or Keith Olbermann are right in their political views.

They could care less about some warped politcal agenda.

Get your heads out of your behinds.

It's not "living in the past" to want to maintain a free America.

Do you think the Constitution only represents "the past"? That type of attitude is part of the reason we're in such trouble and elected such a dangerous and despicable man.

The future always did belong to the young. The difference is that the young valued America and the rights bestowed upon them unlike the selfish, clueless, whining morons of today.

You sit back and let Obama and his thugs quietly take away everything that you've taken for granted. Then you'll be the first to cry "why didn't someone do something".

Well, someone is trying to do something - stay out of his way!

There are way too many sheeple who actually get their "news" from silly talking heads like Beck, instead of doing intelligent research.

I suppose I'm considered part of the 'youth' of this country, being 25 and all and I absolutely do not agree with that. Yes, some of the youth is involved in those frivolous things, but many, many more are becoming involved in politics. Especially after last years election, I was really happy to see the turnout on BOTH sides, not just for the presidential election, but for the propositions and local elections as well. There was a lot of support for independents in my age group, which was also nice.

My 16 year old brother actively helped with Ron Paul's campaign last year of his old volition, which was very impressive to me. He also likes texting and sports (he's a varsity baseball player as a sophomore...well, now junior) but just because someone likes celebrity gossip doesn't mean they aren't interested in other things as well.
