Spent a few days in Copenhagen and Arhus and I had the greatest experience. I had been doing some research about Denmark especially given the fact that they are overall the happiest people in the world and the most satisfied with their health care system.

Everytime I travel to a different country, I just get this feeling that the US is a very overrated country, it also makes me realize how many lies Americans are told on a daily basis, this whole, "We are the greatest, no one compares to us" is truly a bunch of BS. Beautiful country, very safe, no guns, no homeless people, a very happy bunch of people overall

High taxes, and some evil socialism does not seem to be all that bad after all.

If every country was alike, you'd have no reason to travel to Denmark.

Aren't Democrats supposedly the party of diversity? Now you want us to emulate a country twice the size of Massachussets? LOL Whatever floats your boat.

What a useless thread. My brother lives in Brussells. Talk to him about your America sucks attitude and you will learn something.
You take a little vacation to Denmark and post the baseless comments to back your political ideology, sorry does not work for me.

Yes of course there is nothing to learn from the rest of the world, of course the U.S. used to be renown for taking from others and adapting it to our particular circumstances, but I guess we have grown too arrogant and self-satisfied to do anything like that anymore.

Nice oversimplification. If learning from the rest of the world were so easy, we'd already have done it if it worked for us. In fact, if learning from our own States were so simple, it would have already been done. Democrats have been slobbering over Massachusetts healthcare system. If it's so good, then why haven't other states started a similar program? Because it is wrought with problems and may not work for certain state bureacracies. The same can be said for other countries. What's good for the goose is not always good for the gander. You can chalk it up to arrogance if you want, but you're ignoring the two very different societies of Denmark and the United States. Not to mention a 325 million disparity in population. Scope and scale alone makes the comparison far from equitable.

Yup, all it takes is a quick vacation to a country and one becomes an expert.

And why not ?

The vacationer is not earning a living there and paying the taxes

Even in the US, many people moved to a vacation destination due to fond memories and regretted it.

A huge difference between being on vacation and actually living there.

Living there is when reality strikes !

Maybe they're happy because they are drunk all the time? I'd be happy too if I could do nothing and have somebody give me everything.......

International Comparisons of Alcohol Consumption
Countries with relatively low percentages of both drinkers and weekly drinkers included Norway, Switzerland, and the United States. Conversely, high percentages of both drinkers and weekly drinkers were found in England, Wales, Scotland, Denmark, and Greece. Again, no marked gender differences existed across the countries—if the percentage of male weekly drinkers was high, so was the percentage among females. Finally, the ranking of the countries with respect to weekly drinking remained stable among the different age groups tested, similar to what had been observed for the abstention rates. These findings in young people again did not seem to fit the prototypical wet/dry classification of adult drinking in that nations with high alcohol consumption among youth included both a wine country, Greece, and beer–drinking countries, such as Denmark, England, and Wales

I wonder if the OP is aware of this aspect of Danish polity and feels that it is an important atrribute of the general state of contentment among the Danes -- and if it might be something the US ought also to emulate?

Article 4 in the Constitution of Denmark stipulates that "The Evangelical Lutheran Church is the National Church and shall be supported by the state". On the other hand, § 68 ensures that no one are obliged to pay personal contributions to any religion other than their own. It has been questioned how these two principles can co-exist. Non-members don't pay church tax, but an additional state subsidiary accounts for 12% of the Church's income. This means every citizen, even non-members, contribute with an average of 130 kroner annually (23 USD). In addition, the bishops are high-ranking officials whose salary is fully paid by the state. In return, certain public tasks are carried out by the Church, such as conducting vital records registries and managing graveyards which are open to all denominations.

People come here now and demand we change for them.
How's that for arrogance.
