Healthcare and what way to go? American nurses give their opinion.
What's the background to all the claims of socialism every time healthcare reform comes up?

We all know that 47 million Americans are uninsured, and it's not news to you that medical costs are increasing faster than the rate of inflation, or that more Americans than ever are afraid a single major illness could bankrupt them. It's little wonder that when the Gallup poll asked people on the eve of this election year to name the most important thing that can be done to cope with health care, 63% mentioned universal coverage — more than any other fix. Critics were quick to cry "Socialism! Socialism!", and even before Senator Hillary Clinton unveiled her healthcare plan, they attacked it, too, as "socialized medicine."

You have to realize that scare words like "socialized medicine" are pushed on us by the private insurance companies who do not want competition. Don't fall for it.

Remember, Medicare is "socialized medicine" and is working well.

I've been supported by socialized medicine for many years, and its a great system to have as a backup when you get sick or need care. And in addition, no one is a prisoner to not take private care in addition to socialized care - so no excuses that these systems are 'bad' in any way, as some media outlets try to claim, and many Bushoholics spew.

The Bill Moyer interviews are interesting, and this one had nurses opinions which I thought was refreshing from the usual politicians and insurance industry spokesperson views that are so frequent.

Why do many Americans fall to pieces as soon as pressure is put on them from right wing lies and scaremongering?
This post shows how just the unfounded propoganda and scare tactics screamed at Americans by the anti-UHC, self interest groups can unsettle people so much that they go against their original feelings.
We see this now at Presidential Elections...Hate Speech.
Is this how Americans are now controlled, by fear and hate speach??????
Looks like it.

Your fact checker is broken and your spin machine is in overdrive. A large share of the 47 million are not uninsurable by anything other than their own personal choice. A choice made because there is a system that supports this selfish personal choices.

Besides, I bet near 100 percent would say they don't want to pay taxes. Then ask them to give up all the services (e.g., schools, police, public roads) and they waffle. Real issue is that the majority that votes for the politicians DO NOT pay taxes, or very little at all.

Those of us who actually pay taxes are not represented...at least those who aren't part of the Corporate American lobbying machine.

Its a quote from Bill Moyer.

Just shows you respond without even listening to the actual content of the program link.

How can you be "represented" when you deny yourself basic information, and have done everything in your power to keep reasoning out of your life?
If you at least keep yourself informed you would be able to argue your point.

Then you would know, that if a plan to reduce the whopping 16% administrative costs for healthcare is reduced to only 7% or so, all those uninsured would be covered without anyone spending anything more. If these admin costs were reduced to 0% as in Taiwan who emulated European socialized medical system, and then tweaked it to fit their own governance - there would even be surplus.

But because you deny yourself information and are too occupied opposing anything you hear, you've never heard of these points before, have you...?

A quote?? Gee whiz, you wrote it as if it was your statement. Besides, do you take as fact everything you're told and read?

If you thought a little you'd have reason... just think of all the differences between the USA and Taiwan and then "reason" why their health care system won't work here. (I'm not saying we can't learn from their experience.)

And pass that thing the other way, I'd rather retain the ability to have reasoning.

Cost pain predicted as health heads for overhaul | The Australian

The single payer approach just appears to be the easiest system. But looking at countries that actually have single payer and you will see it's a very problematic system.
