Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden described President Barack Obama as "powerless" to stop the war in Afghanistan, and Americans' inability to grasp why the Sept. 11 attacks occurred has "cost you a lot without any result whatsoever."
The remarks by the terrorist leader were released two days after the eighth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks that he ordered. Bin Laden typically addresses the American people in a message timed around the Sept. 11 anniversary.
the question to ask is why didn't Bill Clinton! Bin Laden grew to what he is under the Clinton Presidency.
I have thought about this a lot. What could Clinton have done?
OBL was not on our soil - and he is not the General of a country's Army. Let's say Clinton would have declared war on Afghanistan after the first bombing of the trade center building. No way would the world have accepted that! The best thing he could have done would have been to send out CIA death squads or work with other countries to assassinate OBL. But who even understood (internationally) what OBL was doing at that point in history? The Clinton administration felt that going thru/ the judicial system was the best way to address OBL. No one could know that he would escalate the attacks on American soil. And international law had no real mechanism to address the situation - other than bringing OBL to trial.

"""No one could know that he would escalate the attacks on American soil."""
Except the Cheney Administration which IGNORED the warnings.
This is like painting by numbers - yanks tearing each other apart because one side or t'other didn't catch Binladen.
Let me spell it out for you.
The only way Binladen will ever be caught is either by an enormous stroke of luck or by him being betrayed by his own people.
The stroke of luck theory is highly improbable.
The betrayal theory is a remote possibility.
However it is especially unlikely that any muslim would hand binladen over - and certainly not over to the USA.
No.
Binladen and his cause enjoy huge support.
Remove the root cause of the disagreement (US support of zionism) and then perhaps Binladens support will diminish.

To "remove support of zionism" as you put it would simply mean that OBL had won - and therefore, his support would strengthen - as he would be the HERO who managed to bring the USA to its knees in re: to foreign policy.

I disagree.
As OBL argues, US support of zionism is his reason for his war against the USA.
This reason resonates throughout the Muslim world.
Thats why he enjoys support from people throughout the region.
Do you really believe that he could have remained on the run - without huge logistical and local support??
