Typical government reaction. So, school isn't working... I guess we need MORE school! Brilliant!

And yet, American children already spend more time in the classroom than their Asian counterpart countries who outscore them.

If anything this will increase the dropout rate in poor areas.

Local education is none of Obama's business, or that of the federal government, for that matter. Maybe Obama would like to come change the diapers of our babies, too.

Certain school districts already have a year round schedule. Personally, I have no problem with it.

I did two years of year round school and I really liked it. If I remember correctly it was 4 weeks of school then one week off... gives kids a much needed little break but not quite enough to forget what they learned entirely preceeding the break.

I have mixed feelings about this. One of the things about Obama I have always like is his views on education but I am not sure show that more school days and hours is the answer. I would like for them to do a study on how the hours in a school day and how they are currently used. I remember a lot of time being wasted during school days either doing nothing or doing busy work that did nothing to enhance my education.
