By going he gets roasted anyhow.

I think Obama is right to go to Denmark ; it might help secure the Olympic Games for Chicago ; which would bring huge economic activity.

God knows America's basketcase economy needs all the economic activity it can get.
True. And this is for the 2016 Olympics. And he's going for how long? Oh - ONE DAY!
After much back and forth, a White House official says the president decided to go at this late hour because the competition looks very close. The Obamas' hometown is in a tight final race with Spain, Tokyo, and Brazil. Leaders from all three countries are going to Copenhagen this week to lobby for their city's cause.

[A WH] official added that the president feels the health care issue is in a place that his absence for a day is not going to have a negative impact. And so he’s taking the red eye on Thursday, arriving Friday morning “to seal the deal.”
***
Mr. Obama will now join the first lady there, and is slated to speak to the IOC on Friday. He will return to Washington Friday night, the same day that final votes are cast.
President Obama: Copenhagen Bound - Political Punch

But it's so much easier for a lot of folks NOT to look stuff up, isnt it?

Oh lord. Calm down, straining is bad for one's health. It's a one day trip, if even. I for one want the olympics to come to Chicago. I live in Milwaukee & it would be great for our city as well as for Madison. Why don't you start thinking about other people in this country for a change instead of focusing needless energy on whining about inconsequential things? Talk about selfish.

You gotta be kidding me.

How about he stays home and does something right for a change.

His watch has created zero accomplishments in 10 months and he doesn't care. Amazing.

Who the hell would travel to see anything in Chicaaaago anyway?
Obama is NOT W. Obama can actually walk and chew gum at the same time. The man is brilliant and can handle all these major issues facing the country AND take a day to promote the US to the Olympic Committee! USA USA USA USA!

I wish critics of Obama could actually present credible, factual points once in a while.

Trying to land the Olympics in the heartland of our country is FAR from a pleasure trip. Nice try.

Lets look at how much the projections for London 2012 state.
The British bid estimates that the benefit to the economy, nett of all
costs for the staging of the Olympics, will generate approx £50-£75b
to the British economy.
That's after all costs are deducted.

That nett figure doesn't include the tax revenue generated through job creation for the bulding of the stadium, VAT on goods/materials/services
used to help build the infrastructure for the games.

So there is a massive benefit for the economy which wins the nomination to stage the Games.

The cost of Obama not going to support the bid - and Chicago not getting the Games - would run in to billions.

Too bad Obama is all out of magic potion. He is not going to "seal any deal". He will lose out to South America.

Obama is recognized world wide as being an excellent orator. W, on the other hand, is a world wide joke. A bad joke at that. There are books filled full of W's "bushisms". Obama was a constitutional scholar. To suggest he doesn't know how many States there are is just plain dumb. A mere slip of the tongue after a long exhausting campaign.

If he didn't go : your kind would be accusing him of not trying.

We'll see which country gets the Games.

Incidentally, no South American country has ever stages the Games.

"He" will lose out? No, that would be "the united states will lose out". "He is not going to seal any deal"? No, that would be "the united states is not going to seal any deal". Too bad your hatred of Obama overrides any rationality concerning having the olympic games here.
