A new Oklahoma law requires physicians to disclose detailed information on women's abortions to the State's Department Of Health, which will then post the collected data on a public website. The controversial measure comes into effect on November 1 and will cost $281,285 to implement, $256,285 each subsequent year to maintain.

Oklahoma women undergoing abortion procedures will be legally forced to reveal:
1) Date of abortion
2) County in which abortion is performed
3) Age of mother
4) Marital status of mother
5) Race of mother
6) Years of education of mother
7) State or foreign country of residence of mother
8) Total number of previous pregnancies of the mother

This is pretty bad and unjust, if Oklahoma is the only state that has an abortion law like this. Does your state have something like it? Notice there is no sign of the father of the aborted fetus having to be subject to any questions. He probably would be hard to find, anyway.

Abortion – right wrong or indifferent

I’m not too knowledgeable about laws, however this sounds like it’s illegal to publicize someone’s medical record information especially if they happen to be a minor.

I smell a big lawsuit!

In other words, the women are being treated like criminals, even though they haven't broken any laws.

There was another thread about this very same thing, and I had the impression that the data would be used for statistical purposes, not identifiable ones.
Clearly it would go against HIPPA laws for the information to be shared in a specific way i.e. Betty Sue from Bumfark OK aborted at five weeks because her daddys the daddy. Rather I would think it would be X amount of abortions were provided at X stage for X reason. If this is not the case, then OK has a long expensive court battle to look forward to.

From what I read, names aren't published with the data.. but I'm still very uncomfortable with this idea.

I agree, but why publish the info on a public website?

I've worked in health care, and from what I understand this is perfectly compliant with HIPAA laws as someone has just announced that it's generalized enough.

It's done with real estate data and taxes. Federal funding might flow through there for abortions and statistics need to be maintained on how much budget money is allocated.

my complaint last night was the fact that the doctors name and lience is published .. even if he only cleans up the mess from a botched abortian .. and posting public data not cool, to easy to out some one in a small town with the info to be posted .. plus the fact that it keeps women from getting any medical care because they are afraid of laws like this ..
