Obama reaffirms will end 'don't ask, don't tell'

By CHRISTINE SIMMONS, Associated Press Writer Christine Simmons, Associated Press Writer – 11 mins ago
WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama pledged to end the ban on homosexuals serving openly in the military in a speech Saturday, but acknowledged to a cheering crowd that the policy changes he promised on the campaign trail are not coming as quickly as they expected.
"I will end 'don't ask-don't tell,'" Obama said at the annual dinner of the Human Rights Campaign, a gay civil rights advocacy group. Obama reaffirmed his commitment to end the ban, but did not give a timetable or the specifics that some activists have called for.

Remind me to NOT hold my breath! . Less rhetoric and more action; like his signature on an Executive Order...only takes a minute...to do what is right and what he already promised many times before????

Only the short-sighted, shallow dimwits focusing on gay rights fail to see that Obama is not stupid enough to perform a morale-busting policy stunt in the midst of a "war of necessity." The rest of us see perfectly why he's dragging his feet.

Default 'Don't ask, don't tell' to end?

I assumed it was just another empty campaign promise. I don't agree that repealing it is right but we'll see.

I heard on the radio one theory that he won't do away with "Don't ask, don't tell" until after the 2010 mid-term elections... theory being he doesn't want to put the 'blue dog' Democrats in a position to lose their seats. When I heard that, it sort of made sense to me although I'd just as soon see it done now and get it over with.

Probably won't do it cause it might upset his muslim friends. Modern Christians simply don't approve of homosexuality. Muslims execute homosexuals or imprison them.
