The story that a little boy had floated away in a giant helium balloon was a hoax concocted to land a reality television show, authorities said Sunday, and the boy's parents will likely face felony charges.
Oh my god. WHAT is the HECK is up with people nowadays?
Unbelievable....IMHO...the father looked guilty during their interview and the boy...well.....I think maybe the parents should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
On the other hand this punishment would also affect an innocent child; who apparently has just been taught to lie. They should be ashamed....and the balloon alone endangered many innocent people in the air and on the ground.
Not counting claiming their child was an UNWITTING passenger....Like Gomer Pyle would always say: "SHAME, SHAME, SHAME!" What is WRONG with people??? .
You know what the really screwed up thing is? They probably will profit from this down the road. Does anyone remember that degenerate, Joey Buttafucco? If you don't, Google the name. This creep served time and went on to appear on some idiotic celebrity boxing TV show. This moronic stunt might not have worked out exactly like this even more moronic couple planned, but they will still reap some sort of monetary gain from this at some point...mark my words. After he pleads some kind of mental disorder, some publication or show will want to do a story on his road back to sanity. Remember when some publisher was actually going to display the poor taste to publish a book by O.J. Simpson..."If I Did It"? People will pay for any garbage.

Personally, I think this story has gotten way too much national media attention. It was about a homemade inflatable object that flew away, and a boy that turned out to be safe after all. Certainly, there are more worthwhile stories that deserve higher priority than this. I guess it must have been a slow period for any valuable news topics.
But with that said, I'm glad they are seeking criminal charges against the parents. The kid even admitted that he did it for "the show" ... so it's pretty obvious that the parents put him up to it, and are just media hounds who seek attention. Also, the CNN interview with the family was rather pathetic. You could tell the father was lying ... and the little boy kept jumping around, wouldn't sit still, and the parents were just sitting there not administering any kind of discipline whatsoever. These people seem pretty unfit to be parents, especially when they stage a hoax like this, and refuse to control their little brats.
Bet the little twerp ends up in the Macy's day parade on Thanksgiving. Maybe the big turkey balloon will peck him out of his seat, and float away for good !
....(That's too funny).

Hell no!! Charge these parents. That stunt cost a lot of money, and local resources. They should let the parents pay back the local authorities for that stunt. That's like running a scam if you ask me. Book' em. That'll teach them.
In 1946, Dr. Benjamin Spock first published his infamous book “Common Sense Book of Baby and Child Care,” which was unlike any that came before it. Instead of stressing the importance of teaching self-denial and respect for authority, Spock discouraged directive training and emphasized accommodating children’s feelings and catering to their preferences. No longer did children learn they could endure Brussels sprouts and suffer through daily chores. Using Spock’s approach, parents began to feed self-indulgence instead of instilling self-control – homes were becoming child-centered. As parents elevated children’s “freedom of expression” and natural cravings, children became more outspoken, defiant and demanding of gratification. In fact, they came to view gratification as a right.
In the early ‘60s, under Spock’s influence, parents were watching their children become sassy and contentious, and increasing numbers were seeing them become juvenile delinquents and criminals. As the crime rate started to crawl up, SAT scores began to drop. Teenagers began to exercise less moral restraint and revealed an increasing contempt for authority. The free-love hippy movement and student protests were inevitable for children who had been raised to think too highly of themselves. Is it any surprise that Spock himself participated in protests and was arrested in 1968 because of his contempt for governmental authority?
In 1972, Spock’s imbalanced view of child rearing became greatly apparent when he entered the presidential race as the candidate for the socialistic People’s Party. Anyone who embraces socialism is clueless to a key element of proper parenting – personal responsibility.
Even Dr. Spock was aware of his negative influence upon parents. In a 1968 interview with the New York Times, Spock admitted that his first edition of “Common Sense Book of Baby and Child Care” contributed to an increase of permissive parenting in America. “Parents began to be afraid to impose on the child in any way,” he said. In his 1957 edition, he tried to remedy that by emphasizing the need for setting standards and asking for respect. Unfortunately, Spock failed to see the deeper problems of his philosophy, so subsequent editions continued to cultivate narcissism.
Ask anyone who has multiple employees or owns a company. You show me a child born in the seventies and I'll show you a 35 year old kid that thinks the world revolves around him or her. Democrats the whole lot of them.

Hogwash. Just because some guy says that does not mean it is true. Meanwhile, I do not deny that there are spoiled Democrat children, the same can be said about Republican ones.

I know people who were born in the seventies. Not one of them thinks the world revolves around them. They're Democrat. But I do know several Republicans who think the world revolved around their crying and whining despite being 35 and older ever since Barack Obama won the White House.
