I understand your resentment of the reporting, but what is the loaded direct labor cost to produce a Malibu vs the loaded direct labor cost to produce the equivalent Accord or Camry?

It would really help target this discussion.

(Loaded cost means hourly pay plus full fringe benefits)

(snippet-this part is telling)

GM Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner set a tone at GM of "friendly arrogance."

"Rick and his team seemed to believe that virtually all of their problems could be laid at the feet of some combination of the financial crisis, oil prices, the yen-dollar exchange rate and the UAW," Rattner wrote.
So where was that dude hiding? He was ghost for far too long...

Nope. People don't like On-Star because it increases the chances that their stolen POS GM vehicle will be recovered if stolen. Talk about a let down.

I heard this on the radio this weekend - very interesting and wish it had made bigger news. Thanks for posting it.

"Rattner paints a picture of "stunningly poor management" at both companies, saying in his Fortune piece that they were "in a state of denial."

"Rattner described Chrysler as "larded up with debt" and "hollowed out by years of mismanagement." It "never had a chance" under Cerberus."

"We were shocked, even beyond our low expectations, by the poor state of both GM and Chrysler," he wrote.

"Rattner's interview with The News, and his Fortune essay, reveal for the first time why the administration ultimately decided to rescue Chrysler -- and how close it came to collapse."

Look forward to that Fortune article too.

It looks like the charts show the following direct labor hours for some similar vehicles:

Sonata - 18.9
Camry - 18.7
Malibu - 26.7 (Orion Plant) 19.3 (Fairfax Plant)
Fusion - 20.8
Avenger - 22.3

That is a start, what we need now is the fully loaded cost per labor hour.
