"Democrats are looking for ways to exclude a bevy of big groups from their proposal to tax so-called Cadillac health insurance plans. So far the list of groups seeking exclusions include labor unions, firefighters, coal miners and other high risk occupations."....
Why don't they just throw in college professors, community activists and actors?
I'm a federal retiree, so I can't claim to be impartial on this. That said, my health care plan does not come especially close to the $8,000 ceiling (the threshold for "Cadillac" plans), so as things stand now, a health benefits tax won't affect me.
However, I think they need to re-examine the $8,000 threshold to make sure they aren't including Chevys along with the Cadillacs. $8,000 may be too low, given how expensive health care insurance is in this country right now.
Whatever amount they finally agree on (even if it's $8,000), I would prefer that no group be excluded, although I am sympathetic to the reality that those in high risk occupations may be required to pay substantially more for their health care insurance, and may therefore be kicked up to "Cadillac" status in terms of cost but perhaps not in terms of coverage.

A**holes.
Who would expect anything different from Bammer. It is Chicago style politics on a national scale.
