We're not out of the woods yet. I'm hoping the next stimulus bill will include some major infrastructure spending that will last at least a year. There was too much money wasted on projects that don't provide much long term benefit in the last bill. The President needs to tell the public about the second stimulus now so towns, cities, counties, and states can get their lists together.

I sometimes think people don't understand what stimulus programs are meant to do. They seem to have this idea that the government can single-handedly save the economy permanently rather than shore it up temporarily in order to buy time for it to correct itself. As if we could sustain long-term growth by spending tax dollars indefiinitely.

Ironically, I think the conservatives expect too much out of government power.

Stimulus is meant to be a quick shot to keep the valley from going to low. It can't turn the entire economy around, folks. The C4C program did precisely what it was supposed to do, and, in conjunction with the loans, rush bankruptcy, and restructuring, gave GM a chance to get back on its feet.

Perhaps it's working.

Um, yes there is.

Recovery On: GDP Jumps, Jobless Claims Move Lower - Economy * US * News * Story - CNBC.com (http://www.cnbc.com/id/33530307 - broken link)

Might it be revised a bit up or down later? Of course (as is ALWAYS the case) - but as mentioned those changes are usually pretty small.

Somehow I doubt that if the data had come in negative you'd be exercising this same "wait and see" attitude.

That's a little like saying that if you have a fever, it's a pretty good sign that you're going to catch a cold soon.

Love the right wing attitude of "we will get into the White House over America's dead body".
We should all be on the same page here and that is to get America moving forward. This Obama bashing is getting tired now, especially after these new promising figures.

Yup.
It won't stop though, they'll find some other aspect to complain about.
