Here is the link to the story -- BCBS plea to customers on reform hits a nerve - Local/State - News & Observer

Maybe it was just lousy timing, but many customers of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina are ticked off at the mail they've received recently from the state's largest insurer.

First, they learned their rates will rise by an average of 11 percent next year.

Next, they opened a slick flier from the insurer urging them to send an enclosed pre-printed, postage-paid note to Sen. Kay Hagan denouncing what the company says is unfair competition that would be imposed by a government-backed insurance plan. The so-called public option is likely to be considered by Congress in the health-care overhaul debate.

"No matter what you call it, if the federal government intervenes in the private health insurance market, it's a slippery slope to a single-payer system," the BCBS flier read. "Who wants that?"

Plenty of people, it turns out.

Ab-so-lutely Un-frickin-believable!

Wow, they truly have no shame.
They're raising their rates and then want to help people keep them in business so they can rip off more people?

Their rate hike gives people a great incentive to support a single payer system.

"Indignant Blue Cross customers have rebelled against the insurer's message, complaining that their premium dollars have funded such a campaign.

"They've hit the Internet in a flurry of e-mails to friends and neighbors throughout the state. They've called Hagan's office to voice support for a public option. They've marked through the Blue Cross message on their postcards to instead vouch support, then dropped them in the mail -- in at least one case taped to a brick -- to be paid on Blue Cross' dime. Or dimes."

Face it the ones that are screaming the loudest against national health care are the insurers , drug manufacturers and other special interests... Hmmm a policy with out special interest being involved don't think that is possible in our society.

What;s really sad is people believe the lies they put out. using the " well i heard".... What you heard is propaganda by special interest groups that will do everything in their power to rob you blind. When was the last time your co-pay went down? Why is it the doctors have a nurse come take your blood pressure and charge an extra $95 for that, when you had a sprain or something unrelated to BP? You don't worry about it because your insurance will pay for it. you don't care when the md's rip insurance off...

We have a mess when it comes to health care practices. we have poor service, expensive care and more bankruptcies because of medical expenses without insurance. Yet people will still jump on the bandwagon with insurance companies and drug manufacturers... I don't get it. They do not have your best interests at heart and never will. It is likely if an insurance Co stands against something you should support it and vice versa.
