Hate crimes on nonwhites (mainly blacks) gays and hispanics is skyrocketing (http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/hc2007/offenders.htm - broken link). Hispanic and Black violent crime is on the decline, yet arrests are up for nonviolent drug offenses.

Hispanics and Blacks are sentenced MUCH more harshly than whites for the same crimes statistically, yet some of the more extreme elements (including some poor individuals here) seem to think these disparities are somehow caused by blacks and hispanics themselves.

Some of the more reactionary elements claim that crime in the brown and black communities has nothing to do with poverty and everything to do with black and brown culture and genetics, yet ALL statistical evidence and history seems to point to the conclusion that poverty and crime are directly related, and that race only comes in as a direct tie to poverty.

Blacks and Hispanics (and natives) tend not to be in rule making positions within the criminal justice system (most lawyers, judges, people selected for jury, and police officers are white). Members within this system seem hell bend on giving harsher penalties to those with darker skin.

A black president is elected of a historically white and anti-black nation. Though he has yet to actually do anything substantial, he is vilified in such a way as if he was some sort of anti-christ by many of his 'lightly shaded' opponents. Brown people are swiftly becoming the majority in most larger states. Extremism, while suppressed and hidden in the recent past, has once again risen to the surface of many, even though masked under 'political' prefaces, its pretty obvious.

Where DOES the REAL problem lie?

Racial Disparity in Sentencing - Associated Content - associatedcontent.com

Quote:
There are four reasons as to why racial disparity continues to flourish. These reasons are: prosecutorial discretion, ineffective assistance of council and procedural bars, venue and jury selection and racism by jurors. (Tabak, 1999, p. 6).According to Tabak these reasons apply in cases in which the death penalty may be sought.
...
The statistics strongly support this information. In a study conducted by the Rand Corporation in 1983, it was estimated that Blacks and Hispanics received longer sentences and spent more time in jail than their white counterparts who were convicted of similar crimes and with similar criminal records. (Silas, 1983 p. 1355). It was also discovered that the courts in California imposed sentences six and a half months longer for Hispanics, and 1 and a half months longer for Blacks when compared to white inmates. The study also came to the conclusion that blacks and Hispanics were more likely to serve a "greater portion" of their sentence in comparison to their white counterparts.

Lets see how thing will turn out in the next 20 years. Will there be more whites becoming victims of racism and hate crimes?

To be fair, you bring up a good point. Statistically in places where whites are becoming the minority, hate crimes are slightly rising against whites (straight non-gender related).

Its not on equal footing as white on nonwhite hate crime right now though. It would be an interesting study to see what does happen in the future. It could determine the majority group will always victimize the minority if the trend flips evenly.

Non-Hispanic whites are 66 percent. I wish Hispanics were a race do there wouldn't be a debate on which race they were, such as white or black.

If Hispanics were a race, whites would eventually fall below 50 in upcoming years. It would probably decrease racism.

Though not categorically true, latinos fall into the mainstream idea of 'race' in America. When someone makes an anti mexican comment, its considered 'racist'.

No, unfortunately it would not. I know more plenty of Hispanics that don't like blacks. Never heard of the infamous gangs in L.A. ?

Yeah. There are groups who don't like them either, especially the ones who aren't American born. But there are Hispanics and blacks who get along here.

But you're in Texas, so what do you know about L.A.?
