Not the greatest article to pick for a tear jerker.

"Hubert Scheid, 76, drives a Lexus and owns a two-bedroom condo in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., but says he has depleted his savings and works part time as a security guard to pay for rent, food and medication."
Owns a condo but works to pay rent?

" "With seniors and retirees — people that were planning for that period of their life "

""We just have Social Security and a small pension, and we just can't make it with the mortgage payments and the gas and electric and so forth," Shewchuk said. "It's just draining our resources.""

Planning?A mortgage in their 70's?
They didn't know whether or not SS and a small pension would cover mortgage payments before this? It may not be the economy that's entirely responsible for their situation

I know - isn't it terrible? We had no global recession until Obama took office, there was no fiscal crisis until he took office - everything was just PEACHY when he took office.............**sigh**

Edit: Ahhhhhhhh I see Fox News is quoted as a source.........................say no more

Yeah, and?

I love how no one talks about the fact that just about every credible economist said the bailouts were absolutely needed, or how Bush had his own bailout (that basically gave free money to Wall Street) or that under Obama's bailout we'll actually have some oversight and regulation along with a chance to recoup that money.

But then again, you quote a glorified tabloid TV channel as a source.

This crappy economy can't be blamed on President Obama, although I don't think he's really doing what's right to help it and may even be making things worse. But (from a conservative), you can't lay all of this on the foot of President Obama. President Bush had his hand in a fair share of this as well. A lot of greed among the American public is probably more to blame than anything.

During the late 1980's, there was no RECESSION, and my mother was going to FOOD PANTRIES, and just barely getting by on her social security, she also received heating assistance too.

So, to blame HARD TIMES on our President Obama isn't actually true or realistic. Even when the economy is doing well, people on fixed incomes always struggle.

May I suggest OP make an indepth study of how the elderly and disabled don't make ends meet, even in GOOD TIMES. Instead of following the sheepie faux channel of fear mongering.

SO THEY SAY, they is faux (FOX) themselves. It's good to pat yourself on the back all of the time.

Quote:
The number of seniors living alone who seek help from food pantries in the U.S. increased 81 percent to 408,000 in 2008
And, who was President during this time?
Troll thread folks, move along, nothing of interest here, just another bash the wrong guy routine.

Seniors have been just a foolish and carefree with thier money as anybody else. (and some had good wall street financial advisers who was guaranteeing them 10%-20% a year growth forever, with only a small fee attached)

Guess what. Doesn't matter who is president.

As long as there are people getting 20 Million plus paychecks in this country, socialism is just a small blip in your (and a few others) brain. Might be a tumor. Better get it checked out.
