I've never been a fan but every time liberals, ever notice it is always liberals who threaten advertisers, try this childish maneuver I am reminded of Howard Stern's 1997 movie "Private Parts".

Howard had a rough life up to the time he landed a position at NBC's flagship station in New York. Up to this time the guy was fired station after station and as you can imagine working with him, being his boss so to speak, had to be beyond difficult.

To be accurate "Pig Vomit" in the movie is actually a combination of several people at NBC who Howard had run-ins with.

So Howard shows up as low man on the billing but with time his show gains popularity and and actually passed Don Imus which really threw everyone for a loop. Top management at NBC couldn't understand what in the world was going on "how could this be?" they wondered. They wanted to fire him in the worst way but they couldn't, they knew he walked right over to a competitor causing them to lose huge numbers of listeners.

In radio advertising it is all about listeners not love and hate. Listeners is dollars and dollars is all that matters.

Pig Vomit couldn't for the life of him figure out why Howard was as big as he was when "everybody hated him". Make no mistake, Howard was hated by nearly everyone even a large number of listeners.

I remeber the FCC certainly hated him.

At the end of the movie Pig Vomit finally got the truth. Research was done on who listened and why.

The exchange went as follows:

Quote:
Researcher: 'The average radio listener listens for eighteen minutes. The average Howard Stern fan listens for - are you ready for this? - an hour and twenty minutes.'

Pig Vomit: 'How can that be?'

Researcher: 'Answer most commonly given? "I want to see what he'll say next."'

Pig Vomit: 'Okay, fine. But what about the people who hate Stern?'

Researcher: 'Good point. The average Stern hater listens for two and a half hours a day.'

Pig Vomit: 'But if they hate him, why do they listen?'

Researcher: 'Most common answer? "I want to see what he'll say next."'
If advertisers want to quit that's no problem because there are plenty others that will pay big money to take the slot.

Be nice. Practice. You'll get there.

Advertisers go where there are buyers. Smart ones. Discerning ones.
Capitalists who like to spend their money cautiously but, on occasion, extravagantly. They're thrifty, but generous to a fault. They're conservative, but tolerant. And their numbers are many, and growing!

That's funny. In real life, however, smart and discerning buyers pretty much by definition constitute the hardest target audience there is and advertising to them has the poorest ROI. Those who are emotionally swayed are much, much easier to get money out of.

The fact they're just joking I think proves that he's not someone they're worried about, only someone they ridicule.
