The Tea Party movement has reconnected the cooperation between conservatives and libertarians that harks back to their mutual opposition to FDR’s big government days. But a host of these newly forged alliances have failed to take hold. There is an undercurrent of ill-fitting philosophies and anti-intellectual clashes that suggest freedom is not always brewing in many Tea Parties. One example of a Tea Party divorcing its libertarian brethren recently occurred in Monterey California.
Independents, like myself, are being purged from the tea party movement by reactionary republicans. To them 'Big Government' isnt the problem, but not having 'big Republican Government' AKA religious big brother state is the problem.
I figured this would happen. The bandwagoning RINOs are control freaks and just wanted to control the momentum. It goes to show the neo-cons don't mind big government, as long as it's big government under their terms.
But, don't think for a second this wedge issue is isolated only to the "right". The left is having it's own severe consequences for ObamaBush escalating war in Afghanistan. Even though it was his campaign promise, many anti-war folks are surprised at the depth and breadth of the escalation and will most assuredly stay home just as we will in 2010 and 2012. Why wait in line for hours voting for a candidate you feel lukewarm about, when you can have more fun at the movies or on a date with your spouse/SO?

From your prior posts, you don't sound like an independent. Just because you register that way or say you are, doesn't make you one. In fact, if we all tell pollsters we're independent or we reregister that way, maybe we'll be wooed more by politicians. It would certainly make the flip flopping ones, nuts.
Strength through lack of numbers! It's a plan only Republicans could think of. Of course, they haven't had much practice at thinking lately. Coming up with the word "No" is about as far as they've bothered to go since having come up with that ingenious McCain/Palin idea...
Yep, my way or the highway type thinking...dissenting or other ideas are not allowed.
I love how those who champion themselves as "free thinking" do that.
Just as I watch HuffPo and DailyKos posters bash the anti-war crowd for not supporting ObamaBush's Afghan policy. Words like turncoat, unrealistic, and radical are thrown around. Gotta keep the lefties onboard the Obama train, by hook or by crook!

The answer is simple, while you may feel lukewarm about one candidate you may also feel the other candidate is unacceptable, sometimes we vote the lesser of two evils for the greater good. Staying at home is throwing away your vote, not very American since it should not be viewed as your right to vote but instead should be viewed as your duty to vote.

It's just human psychology. No rational person would stand in the pouring rain or long line to vote for a candidate who promises peace but instead escalates wars, regardless of how much lesser they are of an evil. Also, there's the concept of voting for another person, as any rational person would realize that a vote for your 2nd favorite candidate is truly a vote wasted.

Nope, I don't think any sane person subscribes to this nonsense. Anyone who votes for someone they aren't enthusiastic about is the true wasted vote. God bless people like Nader in 2000 and others who remind the mainstream parties that denying 3rd parties the chance to debate and be on the ticket will come to bite you in the rear.
