The Bill of Rights are the first ten amendments to the United States Constitution.

Where do you think these rights come from?

They came out of a long (and sometimes dreary) process of human thought and experience.

The american bill of rights was inspiired by jefferson, drafted by james madison and adopted in 1791 to the constitution. The bill of rights derives from the magna carta, the english bill of rights. It was drafted not for the liberties but from fear of the powers of the federal government.

Existence, is "where they came from."

But they weren't recognized until the founding fathers were able to verbalize them in the constitutional convention in the late 1700s.

Don't they cover this in history classes any more?

Very good response... I would even go further to say that the Bill of Rights protects the individual to fight against any attempt from the government to exert too much control via socialism or fascism... its unfortunate though that our forefathers didn't stop corporatism which is what we have now... although it is being bent to socialism as well with our current administration... we have a socialism/corporatism hybrid...
